I would love to but I don;t know what to wear. And I have no time making a costume.

What are your thoughts on dressing up as a lesser known character (say one appearance in the show) vs. a main or recurring character? How obscure within the show do you think you should go when dressing up for something like this? (Don't want to give away too much, but I want to make sure people know who I am dressing up as  ;) )

People will know... even if you have to tell them the character and the episode, as long as it's not something like 'Jaffa #3' w/ no speaking parts, you're probably good. =)

This costume thing is stressing me out.  I'm really incompetent at this kind of stuff, but from my ren faire experience, I know it's always more fun to dress up.  Since I'm getting a little older, I really don't want to have to wear some kind of go-go dress, but the only women's bell bottoms I find online are denim, which seem wrong for a "banquet".  I don't sew, so I'd be buying something.  Anyone have any suggestions?  I'm not wanting to go all out to enter a competition, just wanting to join in on the fun.

I've finally got my 60's outfit!
So excited!
And it's appropriate for the banquet too!!
Cracks me up that my tights are bright yellow!
I won't be missed that's for sure!!

Oh, wow… those pants!  The 60's / 70's certainly weren't very good times for introverts I guess.   :-)

Thanks, Fryn.

Definitely not! Neither is the theme of the con I guess, but I will try to blend in.

Dressing up is optional so don't feel the need to blend in... We want you to have fun whatever you wear! :)

I feel your pain. I also have been stressing out about a costume since I agree that it is a great way to join in on the fun. However, I am a bit of an introvert and have never really done anything like this. I think I found some bell bottoms that might work but I feel weird wearing it. Is that too funny? Also, I started thinking since I am also a little older woman. I am also Chinese. Did Chinese hippies exist in the 60s??  :)

@jchu100, I'm certain hippies encompassed all ethnicities!  :-)

I've also noticed all those hippie outfits look great on those long-legged people, but I'm really short too, so there's just no way to win.  Oddly, I'd feel more comfortable toting a P-90 in full military garb.  Nevertheless, I'm going to do my darndest to dress up and look just as ridiculous as I can and forget my age.  After all, no one I know will be there!  LOL

If it helps, the stressing out spreads to at least one organiser too!!
Been through many ideas and almost hit buy on several items only to think "I can't wear that" at the last second.

But I'm just going to bite the bullet, get something and then wear it a few times before the event (albeit only in the house) so I don't feel as out of my comfort zone on the day.

Absolutely Everybody’s at Gatecon

I couldn't find it on the itinerary anywhere, do we have a date for the costume contest yet?
