Holiday Insurance

Apologies if this isn't in the right catagory but I'm looking for holiday insurance and wondered who other people were using or would recommend.  I have some health issues so that is a consideration on the one I choose.

Hi Sam,
I haven't been able to find anyone that will insure my pre-existing conditions. So I take what I can get and hope I don't get sick . I go online and use TID (Travel Insurance Direct) it is under written by Allianz.

is holiday insurence the same as travel insurence?? I woul suggest you try AARP and AAA since they help seniors with discounted  charge swith medical issues

In the US, we call it travel insurance. Those outside the US call it holiday insurance. Different words for "vacation". Both AARP and AAA are for US citizens only. I'm an AARP member, but it doesn't offer travel insurance because the AARP Travel Center uses Expedia for a "travel agent" which can't offer travel insurance. I don't have a car so I'm not a AAA member, but it does offer travel insurance through Allianz. I'm definitely taking advantage of the AARP/Senior hotel discounts.

AIG is another travel insurance provider that covers some medical issues that US healthcare/insurance companies don't cover while traveling internationally.

The first time I was going to go on a big trip,  I didn't even think about getting travel insurance.  Naturally something came up and I had to postpone my trip.  I called the airlines and said I would get a partial credit when I rebooked.  My orginal flight cost me close to $600.  When I rebooked, I received a whopping $75.  Needless to say, I've gotten travel insurance ever since.  I usually go through AIG and haven't had any problems.

*alert* I wasn't sure where to post this. While making hotel reservations, I've noticed something in the cancellation policies of the different hotels. If arriving on Sept 7, I must cancel/change the reservation by 4pm on Sept 6. What?? Some hotels aren't saying why, but it's a cancellation/change fee of one night's room and tax. Anything can happen after 4pm especially, if in my case, not scheduled to arrive in Canada until Sept 7.

So be warned..if cancelling/changing after that time, you'll be charged and extra day on top of regular stay. Marriott, Hilton, Sheraton, Days Inn, Travelodge, Quality Inn, and Best Western have that cancellation policy.  If using a regular credit card to book travel/hotel, check what the card covers if there are interruptions. Check B&B and Hostel cancellation/change policies too.

When I purchase travel insurance, I usually visit squaremouth.com. This allows you to customize the travel insurance you are looking for and read reviews about the different carriers and the types of insurance they offer. Some of the carriers I have looked at will waive the pre-existing condition if you purchase the insurance within so many days of paying for your trip. I live in the United States so I don't know if these carriers cover travelers from other countries.

I should probably have said travel insurance but I must update with what I found...

It's a company called * Insurance With* ... Their policy was incredible and also cheap.  Don't think I can put a web address on here so if anyone wants it send me a message on facebook under Samantha Chambers or email me.
