I have a question about the guidelines.   Is the guideline for length a strict rule or just a guideline?  My story is only about 3800 words, but adding more to bring it up to 8000 would be just padding it.  I don't expect to win, but I think I had a good idea and would like to share my story.  There is no problem adhering to the other guidelines.

No I'm sure the judges will be ok with that. The length was, I think, more the maximum allowed.

Yes it is, but no worries, it has recorded you as added to the list at this end, so I see you!!

Talking of which, it's good to see we now have ten people on the writing comp signup list.

So perhaps a timely remind, though I'm sure you all are aware having read the T's and C's it's only just over 7 weeks til the closing date!

Are we allowed to send in more than one entry to the competition? I apologize if that information is already available and I missed it.

Ron I think that will be fine - provided you don't have a couple of dozen stories lined up!!
A maximum of two would be fine though, but send them in as separate submissions, not both on the same email.

Thank you. I was thinking I'd do one for SG-1 and one for Atlantis

Have a question about the formatting.  Under what circumstances would you use n dashes in the middle of sentences?  How would those differ from interrupted dialog?

Reply just in from Sally...

"The real answer is don’t worry about n or m dashes too much, but since they were in our writers’ guidelines a more specific answer is that an n dash would be used in the middle of a sentence when using dashes to separate a sub clause.  EG

“It was a hot day – not unusual for the time of year – and Daniel had forgotten his hat.”

An M dash should be used to denote interrupted dialogue.

But really, we’re not going to be judging anyone on their use of n or m dashes."

Hope that helps MG?

Thank you so much.  I finally got my story ready to submit and then I started worrying about the dashes.  Very relieved that nothing in my story will need them and I don't have to worry.

I have a question. I entered the writing contest and have a gatecon ticket, but I won't be able to attend. After putting all the work I did in the story, am I still allowed to submit it for judging? Or does my non attendance knock me out?

Thanks,

Tabitha...aka Cassie
