If you are looking to use your mobile phone for calls and texts whilst at The Homecoming, this is a deal worth looking at.

The hotel website says there is complimentary wifi in all public areas of the hotel and if you are an SPG member you might get free wifi in your room (I believe that depends on your level though). So unless you want to be out and about in Vancouver a lot and think you might need wifi there, it's probably not worth getting. However, remember that there will be a lot of people, if all of them use the free wifi at the same time, it can get real slow. I know I use wifi a lot, but every time I travel to the US for a convention I usually see what I want to do in advance (like sightseeing) and get all the info so I can take that with me and I usually don't get a phone plan for abroad. My opinion only, it really depends on your needs.

I would look at it this way:
1.) How many days am I in Canada
2.) How much of my time will be spent outside of the hotel and away from WiFi
3.) Does one of my roommates or someone else at the Con have a phone that if I needed to borrow I could
4.) How reachable do you need to be from home and such, could you communicate enough by email

That's what I think about kinda when I go to a different Country

I won't be out and about much...
Only on the cruise I think...
As long as I can use the wifi to Skype my 2 year old every night I will be a happy bunny!!
All I'll be doing otherwise on my phone is taking pictures :)!
I think I can add an international plan to my phone anyway so I might do that instead :)!

I may pick up the 7 day plan. I will probably be like most people and use wifi whenever and wherever I can find it, but I plan on being in Canada for at least 10 days. Some of those days I will be out sightseeing, perhaps a bit out of the Vancouver area. I would the data plan as a backup if in a sticky situation or for emergencies when an actual phone call or text is dearly needed.

I have Vodafone. My international plan allows me every day 50min of talk to any Country, 50min of receiving calls, 500mb of data. For 3 euros/day.

We're almost 3 months out and once again I am looking this over and trying to decide on the 7 or 14 day option. Funny how at my last Gatecon convention I barely had what I would call a smartphone and this sim card stuff wasn't even a concern then. :P

Just a word of caution: Prices have gone up

7 days is now $35 USD

14 days is $50 USD

21 days is $60

With the increase I may only go for the 7 day option now. :(
