Anyone interested in getting a group together for the Express tour (3.5 hrs) for Wednesday the 14th or Thursday the 15th? We'd need at least 20 people to get the $40 rate per person.

Itinerary & Activities / Re: Absolutely Everybody Convention Video

This was one of my favorite ways to start the day during the 2008 convention! The song together with seeing so many faces added to the family atmosphere of the whole weekend. :)

We have at least 6 months left to get our pics in to you. Does it matter if the pic is attached or is c/p directly into the email acceptable?

@Morning Glory

Did you receive a payment confirmation from Paypal?

Tickets for the Cruise will be emailed out though before we leave so watch your inbox for it to arrive.

I went to Google as I was concerned we might only be eating in the hotel for the weekend of the Convention (which could get pricey) so did a search of area restaurants. There seems to be quite a bit of places to eat outside the hotel (though many seem to be Asian influence), even if you're craving a strong coffee after a night of fun. ;)

I honestly love Asian food and sushi so will be great. Much healthier than McDonalds anyway. I saw there was a Greek restaurant as well as an Irish pub down the street from the hotel so I think we all should find something to our liking. :)

Getting Around Vancouver & Beyond / Re: Skytrain
« on: December 20, 2015, 09:50:37 AM »
Just an FWI for anyone interested. Was looking at the TransLink website and the Compass card seems a good way to get around if you plan on doing any sightseeing before/after the convention. I remember using a card similar to it back in 2008 and it was so easy. Load it up with an amount of your choosing and go. Makes it quicker to get around and less worry buying individual day tickets. Plus, its usable on the Skytrain, Seabus, as well as the regular buses.

Also, you can order it online well before your departure so you don't have to worry about finding a vending machine or customer service center when you arrive.

I may pick up the 7 day plan. I will probably be like most people and use wifi whenever and wherever I can find it, but I plan on being in Canada for at least 10 days. Some of those days I will be out sightseeing, perhaps a bit out of the Vancouver area. I would the data plan as a backup if in a sticky situation or for emergencies when an actual phone call or text is dearly needed.

I like the idea of Earls better than Pier 73. Much wider selection at many price ranges which would fit everyone better. Especially if you werent too hungry and didnt want a full dinner.

They also have a location not too far from the hotel which is good.

The Homecoming 8th-12th September 2016 / Re: Volunteers

Just dropping a quick note that Connie and I have filled out the volunteer form. Hope we can be of help next year and make a few new friends in the process. 😉

Barb starwanderer and Sugarshaker all added.

We now have 40 on the list.

I wrote to one restaurant, told them how many we may have by September.  Funny, I haven't heard back from them..... hhmmmm 😀

Well that's potentially 40.

Are you looking at restaurants close to the hotel or more in the downtown area?

I'm still thinking of volunteering. I did so for the 2008 event and had a blast working in the Legends room. This year, though, I'm going with a newbie who's never been to a big convention. I'm pleased and excited to show her everything and experience it through her eyes, but she wasn't keen on volunteering herself. Being so new and not really knowing too many people yet, I think she was afraid she would be abandoned.

If I can convince her of the fun of volunteering, is there a chance we could be put together to work? That way, she would at least start off hanging with someone she knows and will feel more comfortable and less out of her element.

I'm certain that by the end of the weekend, she'll have a ton new friends though. ;)

The CAD is stronger than the US dollar right now. Wonder how long that will last..?

I know in previous years most guests doing autographs were happy to take U.S. dollars too. Now, that may actually cost you more if the exchange rate is in your favor, but for some that might be an easier option, so I throw it out there  :)

You mean the exchange rate being NOT in our favor?

Would still be hard to get $5's from an ATM. ;)

Assuming we will need to pay in CAD for autos, has anybody ever tried to exchange money out of an ATM for smaller bills at a nearby bank?

I've already started arranging for time off work. 😛

I'm good with whatever is decided. Ride or no ride.

I do have a question though. Do you have to have a ticket to GC to be in the group for the cruise? I may have a guest coming along with me who won't be attending the event, but may be room sharing and spending the time I am in Vancouver with me. I'd understand if you wouldn't allow this and just wanted to clear the air now.

I voted for making my own way there and back, but only because I didn't know the price of the cruise by itself. Any guesstimate on what that might be?
