Full Circle 2021 / Full Circle 2022 Weapons and Gift "rules"
« on: November 23, 2021, 04:44:38 PM »
As some of you have already been asking on FaceBook, I wanted to quickly post the rules regarding weapons and gifts for those attending Gatecon Full Circle 2022.

Weapons

For those of you bringing costumes or participating in cosplay during Gatecon, please note that no weapons are allowed at Gatecon. This has been the GC policy since the very first Con nearly 22 years ago. If we make it that simple, it will save everyone a great deal of anguish and worry.

As head of security for Gatecon, I'm the one that will be confiscating any weapons. We define weapons as guns, knives (of any type, including pocket knives!!), bows & arrows, pointed/sharpened finger 'bots,' lances, maces, bombs, grenades, etc., be they real or replicas! If it can shoot anything, has an edge, can be harmful to anyone, in any manner, or construed as potentially being any of the above, it is not allowed. It is that easy, folks! Confiscated weapons will be held and returned to the owner after the Con ends. If you are wearing a costume to the Con, and have any questions about some item, feel free to email me off-list with a description AND photo of the costume 'part' concerned.

Tim and I will be at the registration desks at GC, inspecting and tagging all cosplay weapons/replicas. This way, our security team and those aiding us during the Con will know what has been seen and approved, and you can go about enjoying your time.

We have to abide by the country's laws that are hosting us, the city/town laws, and the hotel's rules – not to mention the guidelines set down to us by the various studios & entities we work to put on Gatecon.

Gifts

If you desire to gift any of the Gatecon guests, please follow the rules below. Our guests love receiving items from their fans, but there also have to be specific standards/guidelines set forth.

Gifts are to be given to the stage crew or security before or between programs on the main stage. Your gifts should be in gift bags – not wrapped - as Con Security will be checking each gift before allowing it to go to the guest. Gifts should NOT be delivered directly to the guests during the Con – photo sessions, autograph sessions, during their stage talks, in the hallways, bars, or hotel. Label all gifts with the name of the guest and your name. That way, Security knows who to whom to give it!

Do not include your address, email, and phone numbers, and expect personal replies. The guests receive many gifts at a Con and cannot always thank you personally.

Please DO NOT bring food items of any kind – they will not be given to the guests. I sincerely doubt any of you would tamper with the food, but that precaution has to be made.

Again this is a policy we have followed since the beginning to keep our guests safe and happy at Gatecon.

If you have any questions about a gift you would like to give, please feel free to contact me directly.

One last "rule:"

Come to Gatecon and have a blast! The organizers have an absolutely fabulous time planned for all of us, and the more you get excited and participate, the more fun we will all have!

The Homecoming 8th-12th September 2016 / Gifts and Weapons

Hi All!

For those of you returning Gaters, you know me well, but for you newbies, I'm Jane/General Peanut, Gatecon staffer and head of Guest Services & Security for the past 200+ years! :-)

I want to share with you a few things about Gifts for ANY of our guests, and about Weapons, as there are rules we all have to follow as guests of the hotel, as well as the laws of Richmond, British Columbia, Canada, and our almighty insurance company! :-) Most of you already know these, as they are not at all unusual, and are really common sense ideas!

GIFTS

If you are bringing a gift for a guest you must present it, unwrapped in a gift bag, to a member of the crew or security team who will deliver it to the guest for you. Please use a gift bag, put a note on it to show who it is for, and your name as the giver of said gift.  No wrapped or unchecked presents may be presented direct to our guests. Please DO NOT give food - either packaged or home-made. While we don't think anyone would attempt anything, we are not willing to take that chance, so food items will NOT be given to the intended recipient.

WEAPONS

Any weapon, real or not, that contains a blade is NOT permitted in any convention area. Real weapons or replicas of real weapons are not permitted in any area. Replicas of other weapons used in the Stargate franchise may be allowed for costume purposes provided they have first been cleared with our security staff. Failure to do this may result in the item/s being confiscated and made available for collection at the end of the convention. If you have a weapon as part of your costume, please have someone contact me or my 2IC, Jay Grey, so we can inspect the weapon and clear it. Weapons of any type that have not been cleared by one of us, will be confiscated and not returned until the end of the convention.

Simple, right? We appreciate your help in making this a fun, happy and safe convention for one and all!

Can't wait to see you all!
