Itinerary & Activities / Re: The Itinerary
« on: August 13, 2016, 09:57:45 AM »
Having a proper chance to look over the schedule, I noticed and appreciate the fact that some panels are repeated twice a day to give everyone a chance to attend. Photo sessions are in the morning and some may miss out on a few panels because of this, but the kind folks at Gatecon have arranged the schedule so perfectly that no panel will be missed. Kudos to everyone. :)

Hi Brenda,
No worries. I will put a reserved sign on 2 seats together so you don't have to split up. My communications will be limited to here and facebook. I will see if Krisz will have her phone with her. If she does and is agreeable I will let you know by  pm how to get a hold of us if need be.

😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😀😀😀😀😀😁😁😁😁😁😁😆😆😆😆😆😆😆

Thanks Atlantia. Hopefully we'll make it in time and you won't have to save us seats. Cross fingers! :P

i would be interested thank you,  my flight is at 5.30 pm so i don't want to rush you all just for me as i have to be at the airport about 2 hours before my flight back i think.

I don't know what Lisa, the lady i am sharing with has planned, so if I may can i keep that open and let you know nearer the time if that is ok with you? it is very much appreciated.  Also i am not sure if i have got on the all day tour on the Monday as on the reserve list so will be lost that day too unless my room mate has ideas or anyone else,  I am waiting to see if i get on that too.

Thank you so much for your offer and I would love to join you if possible,

Kind regards

Janet

That would be fine! Yes, check with your roomie to make sure she doesn't have plans already. I'll check back here later to see if you have any updates to your stay for that Tuesday. ;)

Finally getting a itinerary of what we may want to do while in Vancouver together and Victoria and Butchart Gardens may happen on the 14th. Thanks for getting this discount for us! Will be much appreciated once we're there and begin to see how far our hard-saved funds go. :P

The Homecoming 8th-12th September 2016 / Re: Our Guests
« on: February 12, 2016, 05:16:07 PM »
I am disappointed with AT and MS now having other commitments and unable to attend as having the original three would have been great, but I have to disagree with so many here. I'm still quite excited for this event! The guest list is still quite amazing and there are a few attending again that I've met before during the 2008 Gatecon and they're wonderful! So friendly and they put everything they are into being there. They do their darnedest to ensure you're welcome and have a good time while you're there. I also have quite a few candid shots of the guests hanging out with fans in the lobby and bar during that Gatecon that I prize. At what other convention can you do that?

The Gatecon peeps are extraordinary too. They're working hard behind the scenes and will do so up until the very last day to make sure things run smoothly. I've been to a few other conventions before and this is one of the best organized I've been to. Plus, the "family" atmosphere here is awesome. As long as Gatecon continues to hold these events, I'll do everything I can to make sure to attend. :)

Thanks Richard for enquiring about a discount! Every bit counts. ;)

Also, I wanted to add, there is a FB group of us going to Capilano on Tuesday, September 13th if anyone is interested. We were going to meet at Canada Place by the Digital Orca around 10am and then head out to the street to take the free shuttle to the park.

Would be a fun way to extend the fun surrounded my crazies of like mind. Everyone is welcome! :D

Anyone interested in getting a group together for the Express tour (3.5 hrs) for Wednesday the 14th or Thursday the 15th? We'd need at least 20 people to get the $40 rate per person.

Local Amenities / Re: Chronos?
« on: December 27, 2015, 10:04:39 AM »
I went to Google as I was concerned we might only be eating in the hotel for the weekend of the Convention (which could get pricey) so did a search of area restaurants. There seems to be quite a bit of places to eat outside the hotel (though many seem to be Asian influence), even if you're craving a strong coffee after a night of fun. ;)

I honestly love Asian food and sushi so will be great. Much healthier than McDonalds anyway. I saw there was a Greek restaurant as well as an Irish pub down the street from the hotel so I think we all should find something to our liking. :)

Getting Around Vancouver & Beyond / Re: Skytrain
« on: December 20, 2015, 09:50:37 AM »
Just an FWI for anyone interested. Was looking at the TransLink website and the Compass card seems a good way to get around if you plan on doing any sightseeing before/after the convention. I remember using a card similar to it back in 2008 and it was so easy. Load it up with an amount of your choosing and go. Makes it quicker to get around and less worry buying individual day tickets. Plus, its usable on the Skytrain, Seabus, as well as the regular buses.

Also, you can order it online well before your departure so you don't have to worry about finding a vending machine or customer service center when you arrive.

I like the idea of Earls better than Pier 73. Much wider selection at many price ranges which would fit everyone better. Especially if you werent too hungry and didnt want a full dinner.

They also have a location not too far from the hotel which is good.

The CAD is stronger than the US dollar right now. Wonder how long that will last..?

Assuming we will need to pay in CAD for autos, has anybody ever tried to exchange money out of an ATM for smaller bills at a nearby bank?

Fryn et al, thanks for listening to the comments. You just can't please 100% of the people 100% of the time.

I am so looking forward to this event, catching up with friends and making new ones. I have found that sitting next to a stranger at the beginning of a con, ends up being a friend by the end of it. Lining up for photos and autographs has the same effect too.

Don't be bummed because you may be sitting next to a stranger, it may be me! Smile and say hello, I assure you that I will say hello back. ☺

Unless your seat falls in the middle of a group of friends, someone will be sitting next to a stranger. I like your positive outlook on this whole seating drama. Hopefully we all don't bite and use a bit personal hygiene in the morning to the make the experience that much better for everyone. ;)

Also, I'm not partial to where my seat is. Closer is always good, but I'll honestly be happy with a seat/ticket anywhere. Better than being customer 1001 logging in to purchase.
