Is anyone hanging around after dinner for pre-con drinks?

Gategoers at The Homecoming / Re: Room Share
« on: September 07, 2016, 09:59:00 PM »
Anyone looking for a room share still? Anyone?

Are you still looking for a room to share? We are looking for a 5th person to reduce costs.

Did you find anyone?

If you are looking to use your mobile phone for calls and texts whilst at The Homecoming, this is a deal worth looking at.

Itinerary & Activities / Re: Overview of the planned activities
« on: February 01, 2016, 02:53:58 PM »
The Homecoming has activities stretching across 5 days so please bear that in mind when organising your trip. The activities on the first and fifth days are optional ones, so if you can only make the main part of the weekend you will still have plenty to see and do.

The event itinerary will be released once our full guest line-up has been finalised and their individual appearance times are known, but these are the extra activities planned for your enjoyment so far. Check out the dedicated thread for each :

  • Glyph Hunt
  • Convention Cocktail Competition
  • Art Competition
  • Absolutely Everybody Convention Video
  • Writing Competition
  • Stargate Costume Competition
  • Vangroovy Costume Competition
  • Vangroovy Harbour Cruise
  • The Homecoming Vangroovy Welcome Party
  • The Vangroovy Banquet
  • The Sea Shepherd Charity Auction
  • The Vangroovy Cabaret
  • The Vancouver Filming Location Tour

PC - any activity marked PC means that it takes place Pre-Convention
OE - any activity marked OE is an Optional Extra and involves the purchase of a ticket add-on
FE - any activity marked FE means Free Entry and is included in your main convention ticket

Here is a very basic overview of the itinerary, just to give you the basics for planning your trip. There will obviously be much more detail added to this as time goes on.

Thursday 8th September
Main Registration all day
Harbour Cruise - over the lunchtime period (extra ticket purchase required)
Meet & Greet party at the hotel - evening, incl Cocktail Competition judging

Friday 9th September
A.M. Panels on stage
P.M. Photo Session 1
Evening - Banquet with after dinner entertainment - Gary Jones and Colin Cunningham (extra ticket purchase required)

Saturday 10th September
A.M. Photo Session 2
P.M. Panels on stage
Evening - Charity Auction in aid of Sea Shepherd

Sunday 11th September
A.M. Panels on stage
incl Closing Ceremony before lunch break
P.M. Autographs
Evening - Celebrity Cabaret

Monday 12th September
All Day City Filming Location Tour (extra ticket purchase required)

Note: we are currently looking at various options for the final itinerary. Once we have all our cans in a row we will publish something a bit more exciting for you than the outline above.

The event itinerary looks great...celebrity cabaret sounds interesting! Will there be a gap between the day and evening activities each day (for dinner / changing into evening clothes...or in my case also to dash home to feed animals as well as get changed and come back haha)

Blast from the Past / Re: Gatecon 2005
« on: February 01, 2016, 02:46:36 PM »
I think this was the last Sekh's party that was had...

JR grinning - lord only knows what about...

And another of those 'I don't even want to know' shots:

haha that was the auction wasnt it....I have so many comical photos from Gatecon 05 - I blame this event for starting my love affair with Vancouver as I travelled to Van to do Gatecon...I also have this con to thank for a lot of friendships that have lasted almost 11 years so far :)

Suggestions / Re: What I Would Like to See at a Future Event
« on: February 01, 2016, 02:43:18 PM »
Richard Dean Anderson, Amanda Tapping and Michael Shanks are awesome guests on their own and absolutely incredible all together. There are, however, two guests who have (and continue to) really made Stargate cons feel that much more special, those being Dan Payne and Alex Zahara. I also wouldn't mind seeing Patrick Currie.

Yeah would be good to see Patrick invited

Anyone interested in getting a group together for the Express tour (3.5 hrs) for Wednesday the 14th or Thursday the 15th? We'd need at least 20 people to get the $40 rate per person.

I'm a tentative yes - afternoon would be better as il prob be back at work then x

Sweet. Glad to have you with us. :)

I actually called the winery company the other day and asked if we get a smaller group (less than the 20) together, would they maybe be able to fill the remaining spots. Sadly, they said no. So unless we get 17 more people interested in going in the next few months, this is one tour that probably won't happen.

But lets think positive, right?

Yeah - I'm sure more people will be up for it - I think a few have shown interest on facebook for this as well. Hopefully we will be able to get 20 of us together :)

The Homecoming 8th-12th September 2016 / Re: Our Guests
« on: February 01, 2016, 02:35:40 PM »
We have just received the following statements from the agent of Michael Shanks and Amanda Tapping...

Michael Shanks must regretfully cancel his appearance at Gatecon in September due to filming in Toronto. He wishes all the best to Richard and the Gatecon family.

and

Due to a previous contractual obligation for a cancelled tour in Australia, Amanda Tapping cannot attend Gatecon in September. Ms. Tapping regrets the inconvenience to the promoter and her fans, but unfortunately, this prior commitment could not be worked out for any other dates in 2016. She wishes Richard a successful event and looks forward to participating another time.

We are as disappointed as you all but are determined not to let this lessen the enjoyment of The Homecoming, and will be actively seeking replacement guests to fill the gap.

So disappointed....as thought I was finally going to meet Amanda :( But I'm sure we will all still have a fabulous time! Are you taking guest requests / contacting other guests in the local Vancouver area? There's some smaller guests who live in Van who are great fun as well as bigger guests

Hi everyone, I`m Susanne from Germany and this will be my first con ever. I come by myself (found no one around who is so SG-1 crazy like me - my record on watching the complete seasons is 1 1/2 weeks) but here in the community I feel like coming home. I can`t wait to meet you all next September in Vancouver!! Never been there before and I`m absolutely excited, thrilled and oooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhh I just burst  ;D. But first and foremost I have to sJaffa Creee up the money for this absolutely funky trip (even if I have to make a bank robbery). I want to be part of every tour and have as much fun as possible.

My seat is M38, anyone else in M? Took a while to make this decision but if I hadn`t I`d regret this for the rest of my life. Right?

So bye for now

Welcome to the Gatecon family! You will have a great time. You only live once so life's too short to miss out on experiences xo

Haha they are pretty annoying - and must spoil the fun of trying to fit everyone  in the shot...down a bit, up a bit lol

The Homecoming 8th-12th September 2016 / Re: Volunteers
« on: October 29, 2015, 03:52:56 AM »
The Volunteer application form is now live at the website...although we are referring to the volunteers as 'crew' from now on, and will be using the word crew rather than volunteer on the t-shirts.

JOIN THE CREW

Great! Crew sounds so much better than Volunteer - I'll complete my form ASAP. Do you guys need the forms back by a certain time? X
