The Homecoming 8th-12th September 2016 / Re: Informal Meet & Greet Dinner
« on: October 03, 2015, 11:43:31 PM »
Would LOVE to meet everyone! First *official* gatecon (have been to Stargate Chicago with Creation) But VERY VERY (did I say, VEERY) excited about this!!! Looking forward to meeting new friends!!

I  remember the first con I attended. I thought, I don't know anyone. But throughout the year I chatted on the forum, made a few online friends and decided to organise a meet and greet dinner. I found it to be a good ice breaker. We didn't all stick together for the whole weekend, but if I found myself at a loose end I usually bumped into someone and a coffee and chat would start, sometimes others joined in and sometimes not. It really made the weekend the tops. Then, of course, we had to have a farewell dinner, which was at Red Robbins. Some had learnt the words to the Stargate theme tune, and every time a person arrived we had to sing it, complete with the actions that someone had made up. 😊

Is it to early for a SSSQQQQEEEEEE!!! 😆

Fryn et al, thanks for listening to the comments. You just can't please 100% of the people 100% of the time.

I am so looking forward to this event, catching up with friends and making new ones. I have found that sitting next to a stranger at the beginning of a con, ends up being a friend by the end of it. Lining up for photos and autographs has the same effect too.

Don't be bummed because you may be sitting next to a stranger, it may be me! Smile and say hello, I assure you that I will say hello back. ☺

I don't think that there should be seat reserving. It makes it to difficult for the organisers to police and can generate arguments even during a panel. One set of butt cheeks, equals one seat. If someone is off getting photos or autos then when you return sit in the empty seat that you see within your block. If the con organisers start making rules and regulations for the seating, they may as well give out ticket numbers corresponding to seat numbers! No one can say who was sitting where, at what time or for how long, and it causes a distraction for guests as well as everyone else should a dispute arise. The con organisers can request, however, that once you have taken a seat and the panel has commenced, that you do not move around from seat to seat as this is distracting to the panel in progress. At the end of the panel if you see an empty seat that you would like, then by all means feel free to move to it for the next panel.
End of my rant for the day. ☺

So, does this mean sales will still be on the 4th? Don't want to get too excited.  :)

Patience Pam, all will be revealed in a couple of hours ☺

Unfortunately "patience" is not part of my vocabulary.   :) :) :)

Me neither really! 😊I just hope my Paypal account will work properly. 😦😦

Suggestions / Re: Got a Question?
« on: September 27, 2015, 07:14:31 PM »
Hi Ricard,
I have just been to Oz Comic con and they have started usung bar code readers for photo and autograph tickets. Of course this is Australia and we are usually so far behind everyone else, but thought that it was a good idea to save money printing official looking tickets. (just in case you didn't know. If you need to know more I can elaborate, but I didn't want to rabbit on about that which you are already aware of).

Or maybe the the Macaraina. (Not sure of the spelling, but you know what I am saying). 😄

Richard, slight anxiety over pay method. I saw on facebook that you said it looks like Paypal all the way. I don't use Paypal since they disappeared $265 of mine. Will there be an option for Visa/Mastercard? Sorry to nag, I just don't want to miss out! 😕

Is it to early to organise a meet and greet dinner? If you are interested, just add your name. It is in no way a commitment, just interest.

Date: 7th September
Time: 7pm
Venue: To be advised.

I'm a tentative yes but will confirm for definite nearer the time if that's ok - the get together's and socialising is the best aspects of Gatecon...well any cons really :) And I'm fine with pics being shared, so long as there's no 'dodgy' ones haha

No worries. I will pop you on the list. I will get definite answers from e eryone nearer the date when i make the booking.

Wow Atlantia, You're already starting to plan a location!  Too efficient.  schulzmk is a nom de plume.  My name is Marcia and the spouse unit is Bill.

Yeah, me too! Too many people with the same name as me. 😆 I will edit you to your real name. Very nice to meet you even if it is only online. 😊

(just waiting for the questions to start about how many spare rooms you have Gemma hehe)

It'll happen!  You know it will. XD

Haha seeing how expensive Van is il be lucky if I have a proper room lol...tiny tiny apartment in my future I'm sure! But to stay at hotel for the parties or journey back to downtown every eve? I know it's only say 20 mins but I know how Gatecons go...

I will be going back to the city each night. I am staying opposite the the Sheraton. Train and taxis will be the order of the day! 😊

No worries Mabru. I haven't got my head around it either. I will add you to the first page. We won't be far from the Hotel, so if you are late you can still pop in for dessert and or coffee. 😊

I  like the idea of purchasing additional prints. It may cut down on photo lines but still be cost effective. Pre-order additional prints when you buy your photo op and put a limit on the re-prints you can buy. Sorry,  I got carried away. Bad habbit of mine. Just an addendum to the suggestion. 😆

Hi y'all I'm Grant, Mag's son, so I am going for sure this year I just don't know if it will be something I will always be able to do. So the question I pose to you seasoned Gate-goers volunteers and not, IF this was going to be the only time I could come to gate con what would be the optimal experience I could do, volunteer or not? I have no issue working during my experience just honestly want the best, funnest, experience that y'all would recommend?

Thanks for the impute and HELLO!

I think volunteering is great. You don't have to volunteer your whole weekend away. Don't tell them I said so, but they have a pretty cool set up. Do a little or do alot, just don't miss out on the things you are interested in.
BTW Welcome....Wwwhhhooooohahahaha 😊

Hi All,
Atlantia here. I'm from Perth Western Australia. I have been to a few conventions now. As a matter of fact I leave for Sydney on Thursday. Oz Comic con. RDA, David Hewlett, Rachael Luttrell and a slew of others from Harry Potter, Lost Girl, Charmed & Game of Thrones to name a few. I am looking forward to going back to Vancouver and meeting old and new friends.

I have set up a meet and greet dinner page under the homecomming banner for those interested.
