Please note: the information supplied here and on the Gatecon website is going to be a very fluid entity between now and next year and is liable to change without notice. We welcome questions- that's what the forum is here for - but do bear in mind the answer could be coming from one of three time zones, so if you don't get a reply straight away, don't worry Just remind us if it's days later and still no response!!

Sunday 13th September 2015 - TH-0 : Official Announcement Day
The Press Release

#SoWhat'sActuallyBrewing?

Anyone who follows Gatecon on Facebook or Twitter will have seen the '#somethingsbrewing' banner followed by a series of daily cryptic, and not-so-cryptic teasers doing the rounds over the last seven days, all alluding to plans afoot for an event in Vancouver.

Many of you quickly put two and two together, and didn't need to wait for the last giveaway teaser to guess what was going on, but in case you were in any doubt, yes, it is true.

Gatecon is joining forces with Legends to stage a brand new, exciting & memorable event –

The Homecoming :
A Weekend With Richard Dean Anderson, plus Friends & Special Guests

To be held in Vancouver from 8-12 September 2016.

Gatecon has been biding its' time waiting for a return to its' traditional home of the Sheraton Vancouver Airport Hotel (formerly the Richmond Inn), and when Paul Brown from Legends mentioned to them his desire to stage another Meet The Man style of event, the timing and opportunity seemed perfect.

As Paul Brown explains; "although this new event will not be called Meet the Man 2, but instead will combine with Gatecon's plans for The Homecoming, it will still provide fans of The Man a similar opportunity to get up close and personal over the course of a long weekend.

I am delighted to have the opportunity for Legends to link up with our friends at Gatecon for what will be a nostalgic reunion here in Vancouver, and one that is in support of Sea Shepherd.

Our combined efforts will bring the fans an event unlike any other, as we have many very special events and activities planned in addition to the outstanding guests who will be joining us.

I personally look forward to the planning process with Gatecon over the next few months, ultimately resulting in an event that we believe the fans will remember for years to come."

For the Gatecon organisers, a return to Vancouver is long overdue, following on from the huge success of their eight previous conventions in the city between 2000 and 2010. Working on the project with Legends is the ideal comeback event.

"We have known Paul from Legends for almost two decades and indeed had the pleasure of working with him when we produced our first Richard Dean Anderson event. So we are really looking forward to this new joint venture and aim to create something special, memorable and exciting for the fans and guests alike."

All the usual Gatecon features will be there such as the Absolutely Everybody opening ceremony, autograph and photograph sessions, panels, banquet and charity auction, along with a whole host of new and unique convention activities, including a harbour cruise, glyph hunt, two costume competitions and much, much more, all wrapped up in a colourful 1960's Vangroovy theme.

For the first time ever we will also be offering some pre-convention activities to keep the excitement building ahead of the main event. Full details to be released on the Gategoers forum and mailing list.

The Homecoming will also be supporting Sea Shepherd, with whom Richard Dean Anderson has an ongoing affiliation. The charity auction will be held to raise funds for Sea Shepherd, and representatives from this organisation will also be on hand throughout the event to answer questions about their work.

As the event title says, it is a weekend with Richard 'and Friends' so you can expect to see some very special guest announcements made over the coming months, along with some surprise appearances over the weekend itself.  As long press releases tend to lose the readers’ interest towards the end, just to test you are still with us, we can announce that our first official Special Guests are; the ever-popular Amanda Tapping, who will be dropping by to say hello during the course of the event. There will also be a special ‘Sanctuary for Kids’ booth in the dealer’s room. Joining Richard and Amanda will be fan-favourite Michael Shanks.

So, as you can see, not only is something brewing but it is fast approaching boiling point! More event details will be released soon, including ticket prices and itinerary.

In the meantime, if you haven't already, please join the Gategoers Forum at http://www.gatecon.com/forum/ as that will be the place for the most up-to-date and detailed information on all aspects of The Homecoming. Join the mailing list so you can receive event updates straight into your inbox via The Homecoming Newletters. Or follow us on Facebook and Twitter.

  We're excited. Are you?

Fifteen years ago today, almost to the very minute that this announcement is being sent out, a room full of excited Stargate fans and a group of terrified organisers were settling down for the opening ceremony of the very first Gatecon to the strains of the now familiar Absolutely Everybody song.

So today is our 15th Birthday.

One week ago we promised you an update of the guest list for The Homecoming being held next September.

A couple of days ago we posted the Wheel of Fortune and posed the question “Which One Will It Be?”

The wheel has been spun, Lady Luck has spoken, and we can now reveal which guest has been chosen.

Well, we could do it that way, but this is Gatecon where you know we don’t do things by halves. Gatecon and Legends promised you an event to remember and we are about to come true on that promise.

So, sit back, take a very deep breath, and take a read through the Absolutely Fabulous, Absolutely Mindblowing, Absolutely Everybody Is Coming to Gatecon guest list. We will catch up with you once you have had time to read through it a few times!

Full guest bios HERE (http://www.gatecon.com/forum/index.php?topic=73.0)

Still with us? Still squeeing? Are you as excited about the guest list as we are to bring it to you? Now you know why this has been a long week for us, itching to let you know of our incredible guest line-up. Who knows, this may not even be the end of it with a year still to go.

Now, as if this wasn’t enough we are also delighted to announce that one very lucky ticket holder will walk away from Gatecon with their very own piece of Stargate history.

Thanks to our friends at the Stargate Legacy Collection, we will be holding a draw during the closing ceremony on Sunday 11th September and the winning ticket will be presented with the Stargate Coverstone Legacy Heirloom, an incredible collectible valued at CAD$1750

Just take a look at these images of this stunning item.

This and many other activities over the weekend will be Absolutely Free for ticket holders to get involved in. Ticket holders will be able to take part in the costume competitions, the charity auction, the Meet and Greet Party, a scavenger-style Glyph Hunt, design the cover of the convention magazine, take part in a fiction writing competition, enter the art contest or design a convention cocktail. All at no extra cost.

Optional extra events that will involve the purchase of a ticket add-on include the ever popular filming location tour by coach, a harbour cruise with lunch in the company of Richard Dean Anderson, and a 1960’s theme banquet followed by an evening of cabaret from some of our guests.

Plus we are still planning to add other activities in addition to the ones mentioned above to fill your every waking moment at the convention. This is Gatecon. No time to sleep!

The Homecoming by Gatecon and Legends is giving you the unique opportunity to see all of these fantastic guests under one roof and to take part in a whole range of inclusive activities all for the price of just US$275!
We will also be offering a payment plan option when tickets go on sale.

We have opted to go with just one ticket type – one price, with the tours and autograph and photograph sessions as optional extras. Full details and prices on what each guest will cost will be published ahead of the convention.

This means you can customise your convention experience to suit your individual needs and maximise your personal convention timetable. We think you will agree this exceptional guest-list provides equally exceptional value for money, so be sure to grab your ticket when they go on sale on Sunday 4th October 2015 at 9am PDT  /  5pm BST

We expect them to sell fast!

  Are we excited?
  Absolutely

PDT = Pacific Daylight Time (Vancouver, BC timezone)
BST = British Summer Time (London, UK timezone - slightly diff from GMT b/c of Daylight Saving/Summer time shift)

Plus GMT doesn't exist at this time of year so will be even more confusing for people.
We should've picked the weekend when the clocks change - now THAT would've been fun  :o

This is going to sound like a stupid question.. but is the ticket price for the whole 5 day event? I know everything else is separate I'm just trying to figure out my finances with my mum at the moment LOL!!
Title: Re: Convention Announcements
Post by: Richard on September 21, 2015, 01:37:31 PM
There's rarely a stupid question.

The $275 covers you from the Thursday night Meet and Greet thru to the end of the autographs on Sunday. The only optional add-on (currently) during those three days is the Friday night banquet / cabaret.

In addition to that we have a harbour tour planned for the Thursday daytime with lunch included...and RDA too (he's just not part of the lunch), and the filming location tour on the Monday. Both of those will involve an extra ticket of course.

That is grand! Thank you muchly for that...
Is the optional add on of the banquet/cabaret going to be on sale at the same time as the convention ticket?
Hate asking so many questions LOL!

Richard you said something about a payment option what will that look like? Will it be 2 payments? 3 payments? Set dates by you guys or by us the attendee?
Title: Re: Convention Announcements
Post by: Richard on September 21, 2015, 07:22:33 PM
This will be detailed in an announcement later this week but in brief it would be 3 almost equal payments ($95, $90, $90) spread over consecutive months from when you book the ticket. i.e. a third payable at time of booking followed by two more payments the following months.

Your ticket number will be allocated at the time of booking and then the eTicket issued upon completion of the scheduled payments.

I thought the Cabaret was included in the main $275, or does the Banquet and Cabaret go together?

It may still swap to after the auction but if it's after the banquet we will open up to general admission for the cabaret section of the evening.

Is it possible to pay all-at-once or we all have to make separate payments?

What it means is that cc payments will go through PayPal, but you don't need a PayPal account to use your cc for payment:  https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=p/mer/WAX_landing-outside

The Homecoming Tickets

Tickets will go on sale on Sunday 4th October at 9am PST / 5pm BST
- please check what time that is for you in your own time zone, using this link
Time Zone Converter (http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=Gatecon+Tickets&iso=20151004T09&p1=256)

We will publish a direct link to the ticket purchase page of the website via Facebook and Twitter, or simply click on the Tickets link on the Gatecon homepage.

Ticket price is US$275
There will be a maximum of 1000 tickets available.
One person can order for a group of friends but we will need names and email addresses for all people in the group

We are launching the main convention ticket ONLY on this date to expedite your transaction through the store. Ticket add-ons such as the banquet and the tours will be released at a later stage.

Payment for tickets will be through Paypal. You do not have to have a Paypal account in order to make your payment, and you can use your credit card through Paypal. We have considered alternative payment options this week but none was suitable.

There will also be a Payment Plan available through Paypal where you can spread the cost of your ticket/s over three months with the first payment made at the time of booking. There will be an additional charge for using this option.

Children under 5 years old can attend the convention free of charge but must sit on the lap of a paying ticket holder. We are unable to offer reductions for other age groups.

For people with disabilities that require a carer to be present a registration form will be up on the website that you need to complete.

The convention ticket gives admittance to all the on-stage panels, the Meet and Greet party, the charity auction and other convention activities marked as free to enter. It does not include the photograph sessions or the autograph sessions. Optional extra tickets will be made available shortly for the banquet, the harbour cruise and the filming location tour.

Seating in the main auditorium will be in colour coded blocks based on date of ticket purchase. If you are wishing to sit with friends during the guest panels we strongly recommend that you make one purchase for all members in the group at the same time. We cannot guarantee adjacent seats for tickets purchased at different times.

Amanda and Michael have confirmed that they will be joining Richard and the other guests on at least one of the event days. Full schedules will be made available when we have them

Title: About the charities
Post by: Richard on October 01, 2015, 01:02:40 PM
Because charity matters…

Now that we have given you the impressive guest announcement for The Homecoming, please allow us to explain why all of these great people will be gathering in Vancouver next year.

Naturally they are coming to meet the wonderful fans that support them in all they do, but they are also coming along as special guests of Richard Dean Anderson and to help raise funds and awareness for Sea Shepherd.

Richard has been involved with Sea Shepherd for over 10 years and currently sits on the Board of Advisors. As well as lending his name in support of Sea Shepherd and its campaigns, he also took part in the protest against seal hunting alongside Capt. Paul Watson on the Canadian ice floes in 2005. Richard's involvement with Sea Shepherd is born from his concern over the destruction of ocean life and the efforts made by this group to help bring awareness to the world of the rapid decline in ocean ecology. Richard's desire in spearheading The Homecoming Sea Shepherd charity event is to help fulfil the objective of raising funds for their important campaigns.

"Given that most of the air we breath comes from our oceans, they truly are our life support system. However they are in deep trouble globally, due to over fishing, pollution and ocean acidification. The problems the world's oceans and our planet face can be overwhelming at times, however I know that with Richard, Paul Brown and team Gatecon, there is nothing that together we cannot achieve. For they are a part of Sea Shepherd, part of this movement to save the oceans, to save life and therefore they are part of our victories. For when we shut down whaling or an illegal fishing operation on the high seas, we collectively, Richard, Paul, team Gatecon and our crew on the frontline shut it down. Sea Shepherd's fleet would never be able to set sail without the help of people like you, keeping our ships out to sea in defence of the oceans!  See you all at this amazing event in September, 2016"
Jeff Hansen, Managing Director, Sea Shepherd Australia, Director, Sea Shepherd Global.

More information about Sea Shepherd can be found here: http://www.seashepherd.org.au

Although the Homecoming is a Sea Shepherd charity event, we have also invited Amanda Tapping's charity initiative 'Sanctuary for Kids' to join us. They will have a booth where you can learn more about their mission to improve the lives of children around the world who need protection – those who are exploited, dispossessed or threatened. The Gatecon/Legends team are fully supportive of this worthy cause and we welcome them to our event.

"Sanctuary For Kids is very much looking forward to being at the Gatecon Homecoming event with Legends in Vancouver next year. We will be bringing the S4K booth with the official merchandise and can't wait to meet you all there."

More information about Sanctuary for Kids can be found here: http://www.sanctuaryforkids.org

Gatecon was fortunate enough to be able to showcase the work of Sea Shepherd at our previous Richard Dean Anderson event in 2008 with special guest Captain Paul Watson present. The relationship between Sea Shepherd, Richard and Legends has been flourishing for many years with the three entities joining forces to help bring the work of Sea Shepherd to an ever-widening audience. In 2010, the Meet the Man event in Vancouver raised $100,000 for Sea Shepherd in a single weekend.

Legends founder Paul Brown made the following comments in discussing his role with Sea Shepherd, "When I commenced my charity activities with Richard Dean Anderson nearly 10 years ago, it was he who introduced me to Capt. Paul Watson and the Sea Shepherd organization. Since that time, we have worked together to support this group and I am immensely gratified with the results of those efforts. I was also honoured to be invited by Paul Watson to join the Sea Shepherd Board of Advisors in 2008. I welcome the challenge of The Homecoming event to match or exceed the results from our Meet the Man event in 2010. With the participation of Richard and his many guests, I am confident in taking on this challenge."

We look forward to welcoming representatives from both Sea Shepherd and Sanctuary for Kids  to The Homecoming next September.

The following information will be included on the ticket description in the Gatecon store, however, we appreciate you may have other things on your mind than reading the small print on Sunday, so we are posting it here as well for you. There is now a purchase limit in place, so anyone planning group bookings please take note of section 4 in case you need to amend your plans for Sunday.

Terms & Conditions

By purchasing a ticket to Gatecon & Legends The Homecoming you agree to the following, in addition to our general event terms and conditions as detailed at gatecon.com:

1.   Entry to the convention is for the person named in our database only.
2.   If you cannot attend the convention and wish to sell on your ticket for its FACE VALUE or less, you must notify Gatecon of the change of ownership and supply us with the name and email address of the new owner
3.   If you are offered a ticket for sale we advise that you contact Gatecon first to confirm the person selling it has the right to do so.
4.   Gatecon does not condone ticket touting.  We have set an upper limit of 15 tickets that may be purchased in any single transaction in the store. The person buying tickets for a group of friends must supply all names and email addresses at the time of the booking. Gatecon reserves the right to verify individuals within a group. Anyone found to be buying in bulk to sell the tickets on, either at face value or higher, may have their complete order cancelled and a refund made, minus Paypal fees and an administration fee.
5.   If you are taking advantage of our three-month Payment Plan through Paypal you agree to make payments on time and in full. Failure to do so may result in your ticket becoming null and void.
6.   The store transaction confirmation and subsequent ticket allocation email are for your reference purposes only. Admittance to the event only happens after you have collected your Homecoming Pass in person at the registration desk. This is for your security as much as ours.
7.   If someone is determined to get around the system no doubt they will try, so again we strongly advise you to be wary of anyone offering either multiple tickets for sale or at an increased price. Caveat emptor!

Once we have sold out of tickets we will be offering a waiting list to put sellers in touch with anyone looking for a ticket. We are unable to offer this service whilst we still have tickets in stock. Gatecon will not be involved in the handling of money between a seller and a buyer. That will be a private transaction between the two parties.

Hi Sarah,
We will be announcing the add-on prices within the next two weeks but won't be launching sales until the New Year to let folks concentrate on the Christmas expenses.

Thank you for your consideration Richard.  It will give us a moment to pay down the credit card before loading it back up again.  I expect we will be able to pay using paypal again?

We have just received the following statements from the agent of Michael Shanks and Amanda Tapping...

Michael Shanks must regretfully cancel his appearance at Gatecon in September due to filming in Toronto. He wishes all the best to Richard and the Gatecon family.

and

Due to a previous contractual obligation for a cancelled tour in Australia, Amanda Tapping cannot attend Gatecon in September. Ms. Tapping regrets the inconvenience to the promoter and her fans, but unfortunately, this prior commitment could not be worked out for any other dates in 2016. She wishes Richard a successful event and looks forward to participating another time.

We are as disappointed as you all but are determined not to let this lessen the enjoyment of The Homecoming, and will be actively seeking replacement guests to fill the gap.

Title: A Message from Richard Dean Anderson...
Post by: Richard on March 24, 2016, 04:45:34 AM
We have received a really great message from Richard Dean Anderson that he has asked us to pass on to you.

We are also pleased to announce that every Homecoming attendee will now be getting yet another unique extra goodie as thanks for supporting the event. Richard and Capt Paul Watson have very kindly agreed to individually sign a Welcome to the Homecoming card that you will find in your welcome pack at registration.

Meanwhile, here is the message from Richard:

"Well, it's that time of the decade again! Time to gather, once again.....time to gather together to renew acquaintances old and new.

From my end of things, I can safely say I'll be doing both! With that in mind, a dear friend, wisely suggested that perhaps it would be a timely gesture to repeat our last gathering of loyal friends, fans and family in Vancouver for an event that was unflatteringly titled: 'Meet the Man'.
Therefore, my invitation goes out to any (and all) of you who can remember that last gathering, and would like to repeat the opportunity to join me and my very special guests at the upcoming 'Homecoming' event.

The message I bring is slathered with goodness, heavily primed with anticipation....ultimately I am thoroughly loving the thought of our coming 'party'. I want to make sure everyone knows that you are ALL invited to share in the festivities and celebrate the cause that has become an integral part of my socio-political life. This is about awareness, if nothing else. We want people to educate themselves to what Sea Shepherd does and to get involved in any way they can. Whether it’s donating money, buying merchandise, attending events or mouthing off to your politicians to do something about marine life conservation.

I'm hoping, as well, to find the opportunity to thank EVERYONE for their attendance, involvement, generosity, and ultimately the relationships you have all established with Sea Shepherd, Captain Paul Watson , Paul Brown and myself....by simply coming to The 'Homecoming' being organised by Gatecon and Legends in Vancouver, Canada, September 8th-12th, 2016.

Come and see what all the commotion is about...please do. I'm going, I already have my ticket!!

Richard"

Do you have a ticket to the Homecoming Banquet?
If so how do you fancy bidding on one of six seats to sit at the Top Table with Richard Dean Anderson?

Starting tonight and every night this week (at 8pm BST) we will be releasing one seat at the table. By staggering the auctions across the week that gives everyone the best opportunity to place bids.

Each auction will run for seven days so you have plenty of time to get in on the bidding action.

Don't forget you must already have a ticket to the banquet in order to take part. You can still buy a ticket and start bidding before the auctions end. Any bids from non-ticket holders will be void.

Winners must complete payment by Paypal within 24 hours of auction end or we may re-list the seat.
There will be one last seat made available through a free draw performed at the opening ceremony.

Only the winning bidders can sit at the Top Table - seats are non-transferable.

You can head over to GATECON AUCTIONS (http://auctions.gatecon.com) and set up your account now if you like, although the first auction will not be visible until the start time.

IMPORTANT: the auctions are NOT linked to the Member's Area, and you will need to set up a new user name and password to take part. You do not need to supply your address but please include your Seat Number in the address field.

After this last event, you owe yourselves a nice long rest.  Have you considered checking yourselves into an asylum?

Hi everyone,
We are now able to confirm our dates for next year as Friday 14th to Sunday 16th September.

We shall be returning to the Sheraton Vancouver Airport Hotel and the hotel will shortly be launching their Gatecon booking page offering Gategoers a discounted room rate as usual. Please note that these blocked rooms will be limited in number so please be sure to book early. We will let you know when they are ready to accept bookings.

The actual format of the event is still being decided so we are unable to announce guests etc at this early stage - although some of our Gatecon favourites have already expressed an interest in attending. We may also open it up to other locally produced shows or local actors, as we did with the cast members from Dark Matter last year.

The Friday to Sunday are the main convention days but you can expect to see extra optional trips added on to the itinerary either side of those main days.

Tickets will be going on sale in due course but we will announce prices, ticket types and the sale date well in advance to give you time to prepare and plan. Although we will continue to use last year's mailing list for the general announcements we will start a fresh list for ticket holders only once tickets have gone on sale. You will also be able to keep up with the news on our Website, Facebook, Forum and Twitter pages.

Ticket Payment Plan

A heads up and due to time slipping by we have to have a cut off for the 6 month payment plan so if you wish to make use of the 6 month plan you need to purchase in the next two weeks.

After that we can offer the 3 month plan until April after which we will only be able to accept full payments.
