Itinerary & Activities / Photo Op & Autograph Prices
« on: August 06, 2018, 09:35:05 AM »
We will be launching photo op sales and pre-orders on Saturday 11th
August beginning at 0900hrs Vancouver (con) time (1700hrs BST).

We have set up a world time converter for the event at https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=Photo+Ops+Launch&iso=20180811T09&p1=256

We were not intending to offer pre-ordered photo-ops, but we have now
decided that we need to so that we can try to manage the sessions more
efficiently and reduce queuing time.  We have over 40 guests attending
and some are only available for photo’s on certain days over the
weekend, so some scheduling is needed and the only way we can achieve
this is by seeing where the demand is beforehand.

Platinum and Gold ticket holders have an allocation of Gatecoins and
these may be used to pay or part pay for photo ops in the Friday and
Saturday sessions, they cannot be used for the Sunday photo sessions.
We also promised that entry to the Friday and Saturday sessions would
be in ticket tier order so to achieve this we will offer the Platinum
ticket holders first access to pre-order their photo ops for the
Friday and Saturday sessions, followed on Sunday 12th Aug by Gold,
then on Monday 13th Aug Silver and on Tuesday 14th Copper.  Tickets
may be paid for at Registration at the event using cash, Gatecoins or Paypal.

Pre-purchase of the Sunday photo sessions for Amanda Tapping, Michael
Shanks and Lexa Doig will be open to all ticket tiers at the same
time, Saturday 11th August beginning 0900hrs Vancouver (con) time (1700hrs BST) and will be available until the limited number of opportunities have been sold.  Our
contracts specifically detail the amount of time that has been
allocated for their photos. Payment for these photo ops is by Paypal
at the time of ordering.  We will only offer sales on the day if there
is time available.

Time constraint will be a factor for all of the photo sessions and all
reasonable arrangements will be put in place to cater for all of the
pre-booked ops.  We will only offer sales at the event if there is
sufficient time available after all of the pre-booked or pre-sold ops
have been completed. If you decide to change your selection at the
event it will be subject to the availability of that guest.

The pre-orders will need to be paid for on Registration Thursday using
Paypal, cash or Gatecoins. There will be a payment desk alongside the
main registration tables. If you are not due to arrive by Thursday
please email us at gatecon.events@gmail.com so we can work out an
alternative option.

If you wish to have more than one person in the shot (max 4) each
person will need to purchase a photo op and each will receive a print

Here is the list of photo op prices for each guest along with the day they are due to have them taken. Prices for photo ops are in US$. We will release the payment option info later in the week with sales going live on Saturday 11th August.

Itinerary & Activities / Charity Auction
« on: July 10, 2018, 09:33:59 AM »
As you know by now the charity auction on the Saturday evening is in aid of Cystic Fibrosis.

Staff from the Vancouver chapter will be present to run the auction, with help from our guests of course.

There will be a pay desk by the stage for anyone with a winning bid and they will be able to accept cash, debit and credit cards (incl AE). Please note Cystic Fibrosis cannot accept Paypal.

We will also be running some silent auctions over the Friday and Saturday and payments for these, unless otherwise indicated*, will need to be made at the main auction when you can collect your item/s.

*A few items have been donated to help with convention costs and these will be clearly marked and will need to be paid for at the Gatecon table in the dealer room (cash, cards or Paypal)

If you would like to donate anything for the auction please drop us a line at gatecon.events@gmail.com with a brief description of the item/s. There will be a collection point for donations at the registration desk.

Our Charity for 2018 / The Charity for 2018
« on: February 08, 2018, 09:03:32 AM »

Gatecon is proud to be supporting Cystic Fibrosis Canada in 2018.
We have raised funds for this very worthy charity in the past and are pleased to be linking up with JR Bourne to bring further awareness to the condition and to the charity.

Proceeds from the Cystic Fibrosis lots at the convention auction will be donated to Cystic Fibrosis Canada.

If you would like to donate item/s to the charity auction please let me know at gatecon.events@gmail.com or send me a pm here. Obviously props and costumes or other Stargate or sci-fi related items would be most welcome.

About cystic fibrosis

Cystic fibrosis is the most common fatal genetic disease affecting Canadian children and young adults. It is a multi-system disease that affects mainly the lungs and the digestive system. In the lungs, where the effects are most devastating, a build-up of thick mucus causes severe respiratory problems. Mucus also builds up in the digestive tract, making it difficult to digest and absorb nutrients from food. As improved therapies have helped to address the malnutrition issues, most deaths related to cystic fibrosis are now due to lung disease. There is no cure. In Canada on average, one baby in 3,500 suffers from cystic fibrosis while in Québec, the average is one baby in 2,500.

Cystic Fibrosis Canada

Cystic Fibrosis Canada is one of the three principal charitable organizations committed to finding a cure for cystic fibrosis and is an internationally recognized leader in funding research, innovation and clinical care. Cystic Fibrosis Canada has invested more funding in life-saving CF research and care than any other non-governmental agency in Canada. Since 1960, Cystic Fibrosis Canada has invested more than $235 million in leading research, care and advocacy, resulting in one of the world’s highest survival rates for Canadians living with cystic fibrosis.

Itinerary & Activities / Banquet
« on: February 08, 2018, 07:05:09 AM »
The banquet will be taking place in the evening of Friday 14th September. All Platinum tickets include the banquet but sales for the remaining tiers (Gold, Silver & Copper) are now live.

Tickets to the Gatecon Banquet are USD$95.00 for each ticket. We only accept PayPal as a payment option for Banquet tickets, although you can pay by credit card using PayPal without having to create a PayPal account.

Once your payment is received, you will be able to make your meal selection beside your ticket details at the top of the My Gatecon page.

PLATINUMS Don’t forget you DO NOT need to purchase a banquet ticket as it is included in your main convention ticket. You will, however, need to go to My Gatecon to make your meal selection.

SILVERS & GOLDS Don’t forget that when you purchase your optional banquet ticket you will automatically go into a draw to be upgraded to an actor’s table. But you need to purchase a banquet ticket to be in the draw.

Volunteering at Gatecon / CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS FOR 2018
« on: February 08, 2018, 07:00:23 AM »
This is something we always say, but it is always true - we couldn't hold a successful convention without our volunteers.

Yes, it is a small group of individuals who spend months and months of planning and preparation for the convention, but it would all be for nothing if not for the hardworking band of volunteers who come forward to offer some of their valuable convention time to help ensure its success.

Much like the rolling credits at the end of a movie, it's amazing how many people usually end up getting involved, be it for a couple of hours only, or for the whole event. We never underestimate the valuable contribution our volunteers make.

Volunteering is all based on respect.

RESPECT

We respect our volunteers for their help
Our volunteers are asked to respect their fellow attendees
The attendees are asked to respect the volunteers who do a great job in often stressful situations

Our volunteers will be instantly recogniseable in their snazzy 2018 crew shirts so they are easy to spot should anyone be in need of assistance.

Depending on how much time you are willing to donate and what area you end up working, volunteering can be full-on but ultimately hugely enjoyable and a rewarding way to see another side to the convention. Plus you get an invite to the wrap party on the Sunday evening and get to keep your crew shirt - our way of saying thanks.

The volunteer co-ordinator for The Invsion is Candace who has done an incredible job at previous Gatecons. Candace will be responsible for scheduling volunteers subject to their availability and for making sure our volunteers are ok at all times. If you have a problem in making your designated shift please let Candace know.

To apply to join The Invasion volunteer crew please go to the signup form at the Gatecon website: JOIN THE CREW

Please note as always you must already have a ticket to the event in order to apply to crew.

Thank you.

The Invasion 2018 / Win Carter's T-shirt!
« on: November 16, 2017, 08:31:02 AM »

Another great reason to grab a ticket to The Invasion...

One very lucky ticket-holder to Gatecon The Invasion will win this screen-used black t-shirt, worn by Amanda Tapping during the Season 1 episode The Nox and complete with staff weapon blast damage. Amanda has signed the t-shirt.

The winning ticket will be drawn at the event and is open to everyone who has a fully-paid ticket (Platinum, Gold, Silver or Copper) purchased between the ticket launch day and the convention (or when we sell-out of tickets).

Many thanks to Claire Cowan for kindly donating this item.

If you are planning on a trip to Vancouver Island then why not include the wonderful Butchart Gardens in your travel itinerary.

Gategoers will receive a 10% discount on the entry fees upon presentation of your convention pass at the entrance (if visiting before the con show them your ticket confirmation email).

Do check their website HERE as the opening hours tend to change right around the time of the convention. At the time of writing the entry fee, before discount, is $32.60.

The Gatecon discount is valid between 7-22 September 2018.

The Gardens have requested that we include their Garden Etiquette document on here:

The Britannia Mine Museum is offering a 10% discount to Gategoers on their regular admission charges.
You will need to show your ticket confirmation or convention pass on arrival. The current entry fee before discount is $29.95

You may well recognise the mine as it has appeared as a location in many of our favourite shows, including SG1 (Thor’s Hammer).

It was used for the Reaper Tunnels in The 100, as a mine setting, (there's a shock), in The Flash, Supernatural and DC's Legends of Tomorrow and has also featured as The Poison Room in The Magicians, The X-Files, Eureka, Primeval: New World and movies Scooby Doo 2 and The Interview.

Britannia Mine Museum is a 45 minute drive north of Vancouver on the Hwy 99 to Whistler.
Greyhound Bus Lines also run a service from Vancouver with multiple daily departures. Journey time is 55 minutes and currently the fare is $32 return.

The mine offers a 45 minute tour plus other exhibits but be sure to check out the times so you can tie it in with your journey from Vancouver.

Vancouver Whale Watch are offering Gategoers a 20% discount on their regular prices (currently CAD$130-140 for a 3-5 hour cruise). Use the code GATECON2018 when making your booking. You may also need to produce your convention badge or confirmation email upon arrival for your tour.

From the tour company:
"Please note, when delegates are making a booking, we do require a credit card number to secure the seats, but they only pay for the tour on the day of tour at our office, so we do not pre-charge the credit cards.  We have a 48 hour cancellation policy, so if someone were to cancel their tour within that time or not show up or show up with less than they requested, and we are not able to re-sell the seats, then we will charge the card on file."

We emphasise science and conservation while maintaining a fun and professional atmosphere.

We belong to an extensive spotting network including ferries, fishermen, land based spotters and most important other whale watching boats. Members of the Pacific Whale Watch Association work co-operatively on the water to search the areas inhabited by the whales ensuring the highest sighting success rate. Our company is dedicated to going where the whales are.

Should you not see a whale, come again for free until you do, for life, no expiry.

Vancouver Whale Watch is now offering shuttle service at all the Richmond hotels, as well as shuttle service directly to the airport after a whale watch tour if requested.  Please note, we also have 9 different pick-up locations downtown Vancouver, should some of your guests choose to stay at a hotel outside of Richmond.  The shuttle cost from Richmond is $15.00 return trip.

We also have free parking available and passengers can pre-order a lunch for the trip as well.
