Richard, can you tell us if there has been any developments with the contest?

What about how many entries for Atlantis and how many for SG-1?

Inquiring entrants need to know.  ;)

The entries have been sent to Stargate Novels for judging. No other updates at this stage.

Me too!!

Out of curiosity, is there a site where people who like to write Stargate stories gather?  I'm relatively new to the Stargate universe and I don't want to buy any more books until the convention (where I'm thinking I can get them signed by the author) so I'm looking for Stargate stories to read just for enjoyment. Any suggestions??

There are lots of places.  The two biggest archives for stories written by fans are: http://archiveofourown.org and http://fanfiction.net  (AO3 is much easier to navigate, though I haven't been to FFN in a dog's age.)

If you want to talk to other Stargate fans about the show itself, you can hop over to http://sffchronicles.com - Stargate and pretty much any other SFF thing you can think of. =)

I wanted to let you know that I've been checking out these sites - pretty neat. One thing I would like to mention to anyone that's interested is that if a warning pops up that the story *may* contain adult material, it *will* contain adult material. If you're not expecting it, it can be quite a shock.  :o

On AO3 - the ratings system is there for a reason... if it's in the higher end of the ratings, it will have adult content.  Also - all the tags are a good indication of what you'll find in there.  The tagging system on AO3 is pretty extensive and some ppl are very thorough with their tags. =)

Please don't take me wrong. I'm thankful that you've pointed these sites out - it's a new world to me and I've come across some good stories. I guess I just took the 'may have adult situations' as sort of a generic warning and wasn't expecting...well, let's just leave it at that.  ;)

Oh - did you mean the generic 'may have adult content' warning that you see if you're not logged in (visiting the site as a guest)?  Yeah - that one is the generic warning for COPPA reasons (I think that's the driving force) - the whole bit where you have to be 13 or older to sign up for things and should probably be older than that given the nature of what's on the site.  But, yes... fandom has a way of being very... explicit... when it takes a notion.

Drumroll please, the names of the winners of the short story competition have just been received.

SG-1: Blinded by the Light - Barbara K. Ellisor

SGA: Second Time Sateda - Ron Francis

From Sally at Stargate Novels:

"A huge thank you to everyone who entered the short story competition!  We had great fun reading all the entries – there were some really fun and imaginative submissions and it was wonderful to read stories written by such enthusiastic fans who clearly love the show and its characters.

Of course, that made choosing the winning stories pretty difficult, but in the end we managed to agree on our two winners.  We’re sure you’ll agree that the stories are fantastic when you get to read them in our next short story anthology.  Thanks again, everybody, and see you in September!"

The winners will be given their contracts to sign at the convention.
Congratulations!

Congratulations to the authors!  It will be such a thrill to see your creations in print.

The submission guidelines told us to leave margin space for notes.  Will we be getting our submissions back with comments from the judges so we can learn what to do better the next time?
