Our Guest List / Re: Guest Chat
« on: September 16, 2017, 05:43:48 PM »
Awesome guest list as always, I love meeting the lovely people who entertained me so much over the years. It really is like meeting old friends again each time. I love hearing about what latest projects they are doing and we still get some gems of memories when they remember an event during their time on Stargate they may not have recounted before.

Any SGU guests we get is a nice bonus for me (Louis Ferreira is someone I'd love to meet), strangely enough there are some of us weird folk that really liked SGU......shock....horror....  ;D  :P!!

Here I am Atlantia, just to reassure you I haven't gated to the planet with the black hole!

Great to see so many new people, welcome all and hopefully I get to meet some, if not all of you.  :)

As always I love going to get togethers before cons. At the moment I can't commit due to it being the busy time at work. A drive to Richmond and back home after a long day at work and up again early after a late night out during the work week is something this old bird is not good at any more!

If the situation changes over the next year, and there is still a space nearer the time I'm in!  :)

My daughter suffers from it too and gets very angry and agitated unexpectedly as well if she needs to get away from a crowd so I understand. She too is a lovely friendly person people love being around ironically lol! It's good to know what to look for if you are having a panic attack and hopefully as Gatecon has such a friendly atmosphere you'll feel relaxed and those attacks will not get you this time.  Hopefully I get to meet you at some point during the weekend to say hi! :)

I shouldn't have read that menu at lunch time, now I'm really hungry and I don't have anything at home that looks remotely as tasty as those items on the menu!

I've been in contact with Bill Butt who said he would more than likely be able to join us. He appeared in SG-1, SGA and SGU as well as many other shows and movies filmed in Vancouver. For those of you who have been on Gateworld you would know him as B.A.G (Balding Asian Guy) and read his good humoured stories about his exploits as an actor.

For those who haven't you'll find info about him here........

Can't wait now, so close, looking forward to seeing you all.  :)

Itinerary & Activities / Re: Weather
« on: August 22, 2016, 02:33:21 PM »
I'm actually glad it's cooled down a bit in Vancouver, the sun is very intense at this time of year and it's been a hot couple of weeks. September is my favourite month in Vancouver as the intense heat of July and August tapers off a bit and you get nice sunny weather on the whole. Today is overcast but not raining and around 23C which is ideal weather for convention going and outdoor activities for me. The Labor Day holiday is the Monday before the con so if it's going to rain in September that's the weekend it will do it as it's a long weekend! So that means we should have nice weather for the con weekend, the weather will have done its ruining the weekend the week before!!!  ;D

In the 10 years I've lived in Vancouver I've found September tends to be dry on the whole with some lovely balmy late summer days. If I go out and about and there is a chance of rain a light weight waterproof jacket and a fleece or sweater in case it does cool down a bit with the rain is a good thing to have with you. I always take a fleece or sweater with me anyway because of the Antarctic temperature settings for air cons in restaurants, bars and hotels!

Hi All,

It has been quite a stressful couple of days. I contacted Earl's to ask we can inrease our numbers so that the wait listed people can join, and they have a new manager who was not made aware of the booking. She said that taking 50 was to many and asked if we could reduce our numbers. Needles to say I said no and asked if she would reconsider. In the mean time I started looking around for an alternative venue. As we need a place that has variety in their menu. Harold's Bistro and Bar have been able to take us all, including those on the wait list.

I am negotiating the menu with the manager. Please go to their website and have a look at the menu. The pricing should suit most.

Time is short, so if you don't want to go there, let me know and I will take you off the list.
I am sorry this has happened and hope that you will cope with the change.
Atlantia.

Just read this after sending you a reply to your PM! Sounds good to me and so glad you've managed to find a place. You've done a grand job organising this.  :)

Off The Grid / Re: Anyone coming from the UK?
« on: August 01, 2016, 02:54:38 PM »
Is that the chocolate with the sugary crunchy minty or orange bits in it?  I'm an ex-pat Brit living in Cloverdale and there is a British store in Langley I go to to when I miss Battenberg, Bournville chocolate and Fox's glacier mints too much. They might have it there as they have a good selection of British sweets and chocolate. I could have a look and bring some too and at least you'll know there is somewhere you can get that chocolate in Vancouver.

I haven't seen a start time anywhere but on getting my old memory to work I recall it started around 7.30pm at the 2010 con.

Great to see so many coming from the UK, I'll feel like I'm back there again.. lol. I used to live in West Sussex near Gatwick Airport, and moved to Vancouver just over ten years ago. I look forward to meeting you all.  :)

The Homecoming 8th-12th September 2016 / Re: Our Guests
« on: May 04, 2016, 05:04:12 PM »
Seeing how Gatecon always has a wonderful array of guests that cover many aspects of what went on to provide us as fans of Stargate with such a great viewing experience I wondered about suggesting a guest that would give us some insights into what life is like as an 'Extra'.

Bill Butt is a great guy who has appeared on Stargate Universe in a couple of episodes and SGA, as well as many other shows and movies filmed in Vancouver. He gained fame on Gateworld as the 'Balding Asian Guy' or B.A.G for short! He even signed up to Gateworld as he has a wonderful sense of humour and joined in with the light hearted banter about his role in the SGU episode 'Faith'. When he appeared again in the episode 'Visitation' a line was spoken by Rush that referred to him and the lack of hair. Even the writers on SGU joined in the tongue in cheek silliness! Forget 'Where's Wally?', spotting B.A.G in various TV shows is more fun! :P

He has some wonderful stories about his time on TV show and movie sets over the years.  :)

To quote him from his post on Gateworld.....  "so when and where is Gatecon? Who do I have to pay off to get invited, ha!! Ha!!"

Janet, you'll be meeting a whole bunch of 50 somethings, I'm one of them! When you're all together no one notices age, just a bunch of great people who are nuts about Stargate!

You would have guessed by now I'm a big fan of SGU so would be immensely happy to see more guests from that show.  :)

As you asked so nicely :)

Jennifer Spence, aka Dr Lisa Park from SGU joins the Homecoming guest-list

Great news, be lovely to meet her again. Thank you Richard :)

I'm with PamK1950 on hoping David Blue is asked too! He's one of us, a big fan of Stargate! :)

Itinerary & Activities / Re: The Vancouver Filming Location Bus Tour
« on: February 14, 2016, 04:53:09 PM »
I would be very surprised if Jack's cabin was not on the tour. It is after all the most popular location, it's the most requested one whenever I've filled my car for Stargate location tours during past conventions. :)

Hi everyone! I'm Jen, I'm 33 and I'm from Seattle. I didn't get into Stargate until about 6 years ago, but I've been obsessed with SG-1 ever since. I cosplay as O'Neill at every con I go to. This is my first Gatecon, but definitely not my first con! Just my first Stargate-centered one. I am so excited! I'll be driving up and staying at a hotel in Langley. Nice to meet everyone!!

Photos of my cosplay (are not great quality) can be found on tumblr at stargatecosplay

Hi Jen, welcome! Looks like we'll be not too far from eachother, I live in Cloverdale. Nice to meet you too, it's always great to see new people discovering the awesomeness that is Stargate! :)
