I'll think we still make an exception for that. In previous years we haven't had the cameras available during the evening events, but hopefully that will be different this time.

I love the Gatecon answer of 'yes, but maybe no' for so many things. =)  it makes me giggle b/c i ttly understand the response.

And maybe I'll get to use my dSLR this year... you know, if I get to see any of the panels this time. *g*

And please stay in your seats so that everyone can see.  Also, we're going to need to think about selfie sticks.

I would think selfie sticks may have to stay out of the auditorium.  I can see that going badly in a number of ways.

I think selfie sticks should be banned worldwide. Along with vuvuzelas

Now now - don't be besmirching the vuvuzelas.... :P

Brings one to the con and you'll discover exactly where the sun don't shine lol

LOL, now Richard.

Correct Pam thanks for mentioning it.

We will be producing a convention DVD therefore videotaping the panels is indeed profited. Anyone doing so will be asked to stop. On the odd occasion we have had to take charge of cameras from repeat offenders but hopefully that won't happen as its not a pleasant thing to do.

I'll add the video but to the top of the thead

I've been to shows that have stated no vid or photos and they actually have their security walking and watching everyone and if someone is seen they stop them but also stand there and make sure that they delete what they've shot or filmed.

This does go for audio recording also? Smartphones are the latest craze to audio record.

We don't have an issue with audio as we know people want to do transcripts for blogs etc. Just try not to hold the phone up as it may look like you are filming. If a member of the crew asks to check if it's on audio only please let them do so.

I usually don't videotape anything but the auction, there's so much crazy stuff going on you could have 10 cameras filming and you'd never catch everything, so that's why I shoot video there. There are other opportunities to get video, like at the welcome party, banquet, vendors room, hallways, out by the pool, you never know where fun and crazy stuff will happen. Always have your camera ready and have extra batteries and memory.

Exactly that, flash for first five minutes then non flash after that

Absolutely no videotaping of the panels as we will be producing a DVD after the convention. Anyone seen recording by the crew will be asked to stop. Anyone who keeps recording will be asked to surrender their camera until the panel is over.

You are of course very welcome to record the rest of your convention experience. In fact we will be looking for video clips to include on the Gatecon YouTube page after the con, so if you capture any funny moments do let us know.

For future references, does the no video recordings apply to all events connected to Gatecon such as meet&greet, cruises, location tour, etc that involve the actors? In 2008, one actor ran from cameras during the banquet/meet&greet. I will not reveal the name.

Really just the panels. The other events within reason and if any of the guests do not wish to be filmed along the way we ask for that to be respected. if there is a part of the convention we wish to keep as exclusive for release after the event we will make an announcement. Otherwise go for it.
