Anyone interested in getting a group together for the Express tour (3.5 hrs) for Wednesday the 14th or Thursday the 15th? We'd need at least 20 people to get the $40 rate per person.

Hi everyone, I`m Susanne from Germany and this will be my first con ever. I come by myself (found no one around who is so SG-1 crazy like me - my record on watching the complete seasons is 1 1/2 weeks) but here in the community I feel like coming home. I can`t wait to meet you all next September in Vancouver!! Never been there before and I`m absolutely excited, thrilled and oooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhh I just burst  ;D. But first and foremost I have to sJaffa Creee up the money for this absolutely funky trip (even if I have to make a bank robbery). I want to be part of every tour and have as much fun as possible.

My seat is M38, anyone else in M? Took a while to make this decision but if I hadn`t I`d regret this for the rest of my life. Right?

So bye for now

Welcome to the Gatecon family! You will have a great time. You only live once so life's too short to miss out on experiences xo

Off The Grid / Day Payne's Charity Fundraising
« on: September 25, 2015, 03:32:44 AM »
Hi Everyone,

Admins hope this is OK to share....

Dan Payne is sleeping outside with homeless youths in Vancouver on November 19th to raise funds for Covenant House. He has a personal goal to raise $7,500 which will basically open the doors for more youths...so far with the help of stargate fans at another SG con he has managed to raise $4259, lets help Dan get to his target!

Here is a link to Dan's fundraising page:
http://www.kintera.org/faf/donorReg/donorPledge.asp?ievent=1141575&supId=425429518&extSiteType=2

One of Dan's super supportive fans has designed some Stargate Lanyards for SG1, SGA & SGU to help Dan raise funds. All proceeds from the sale of these necklaces will go to Covenant House.

The Homecoming 8th-12th September 2016 / Re: Volunteers
« on: September 24, 2015, 12:39:03 PM »
This is something we always say, but it is always true - we couldn't hold a successful convention without our volunteers.

Yes, it is a small group of individuals who spend months and months of planning and preparation for the convention, but it would all be for nothing if not for the hardworking band of volunteers who come forward to offer some of their valuable convention time to help ensure its success.

Much like the rolling credits at the end of a movie, it's amazing how many people usually end up getting involved, be it for a couple of hours only, or for the whole event. We never underestimate the valuable contribution our volunteers make.

We have a new buzzword for this year

RESPECT

We respect our volunteers for their help
Our volunteers are asked to respect their fellow attendees
The attendees are asked to respect the volunteers who do a great job in often stressful situations

Our volunteers will be wearing their snazzy lime green crew shirts so they are easy to spot should you be in need of assistance. Heads of departments will be in cyber pink shirts!

Link to the volunteer application form will be posted here when the form is live.

Depending on how much time you are willing to donate and what area you end up working, volunteering can be full-on but ultimately hugely enjoyable and a rewarding way to see another side to the convention. Plus you get an invite to the wrap party on the Sunday evening - our way of saying thanks.

The volunteer co-ordinator for The Homecoming is Candace Marbach who has done an incredible job at previous Gatecons. Candace will be responsible for scheduling volunteers subject to their availability and for making sure our volunteers are ok at all times. If you have a problem in making your designated shift please let Candace know.

I'll probably volunteer at least some of my time to help out - it's usually hard work but a lot of fun. I will wait for the volunteer form to go live :)

Haha seeing how expensive Van is il be lucky if I have a proper room lol...tiny tiny apartment in my future I'm sure! But to stay at hotel for the parties or journey back to downtown every eve? I know it's only say 20 mins but I know how Gatecons go...

Hi Brenda,

Nice to meet you! Group activities are a nice idea...I may be up for whale watching!

Gemma

Hello everyone!

Planning on attending and may be bringing a first-timer. She goes to all the local fandom cons around where she lives so not sure if she's ever been to a strictly Stargate convention before. Will be fun to experience it all anew from her eyes. Can't wait for the festivities to begin!

Was planning on doing some side trips after the convention up to Capilano Bridge and maybe whale watching once again. Anyone interested in going together?

Hi everyone, I'm Gemma from England...Essex specifically so I'm sure people will spot me as my accent (I'm told) is pretty strong. I've done a lot of conventions in the UK in the last 11 years, and volunteered / worked the majority of them doing everything from queues, q&a and guest liaison until due to personal reasons i fell out of the con circuit for a little while. But I missed cons so much that I started going again 2 years ago to see old friends.

I've been to two Gatecons (2005 & 2006) and made so many friends and so many wonderful memories...those cons are still the best times I ever had! And me and my now lifelong friends still talk about those times! I also completely fell in love with Vancouver and have visited twice since, as well as apply for a VISA....I will happily be landing in Vancouver in May 2016 to start my new life in Canada. I am just hoping I am somewhat settled (and not completely poor) by September.

Looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones!

Gem xo
