I’m Becky, and I’m from Melbourne, Australia. I have never been to Gatecon before, though I’ve often looked into it and cursed my poor budgeting skills 
, but I will be there next year!! I have also never been to Canada, so I am looking forward to that adventure.
My normal convention-buddy can’t come along to Gatecon, so I don’t know anyone that will be there next year. I do have some social anxiety issues, so I’m pretty keen to meet some people on the forum before turning up to a convention full of strangers. I do love to talk (and sometimes you cant get me to shut up), but not so much in big group conversations, so I’ll often just sit back and listen.

Well for starters, you won't be alone coming from Australia, I know a couple of friends who are flying from Oz to come to Vancouver ! One of them is from Melbourne, although I can't say for sure that's where she'll be flying from or when. I can't try and find out for you, if that will ease your worries? Who knows, you might be on the same flight and not even know it then (although I do believe she's planning on staying a bit before/after the con... again, i can try and find out =D )

Last year was my first gatecon event and honestly it worked like a charm, everyone was just so amazingly nice. I have no doubt you will have a blast.
If you are looking for someone to crash with, in order to save on room cost etc., do have a look at the Room Sharing thread, see if you are looking for a roomie or what. In any case, happy to see you be a part of the adventure and I look forward to meeting you / chatting with you !
