Anyone with a ticket in a particular colour can sit anywhere they like within the seats in that block. That way if on day 1 you choose a seat you don't particularly like you can alter it for day 2.

Do the seats then work like a general admission, then? That is, you choose your seat and so long as you're sitting there but if you leave for any reason, say to go to the washroom or the dealer's room, etc. and somebody else claims the seat while you're away, or do you "own" that seat unless you decide to relinquish it? For example, I'm not too fussed about being in the front as I would much prefer a row or two back and centered in relation to the stage. Is it all based on luck and how early you camp out for registration each day so you can get first crack at seats and hope someone doesn't take your spot while you're getting photo ops or autographs?

I don't care where I sit as long as I get a ticket.....I'm there to enjoy the panels and as long as I can see the stars on stage and hear them properly I'm happy...not spoiling my beauty sleep or stress levels worrying about how early to get there to queue or arguing over whose seat was where in the previous day/panel....personally I'm always a fan of a dedicated seat number correlating directly to your ticket number, which is yours for the whole weekend of panels, but know that this only works in some Conventions ...

If you go to the bathroom I hope the person sitting next to you would be kind enough to hold your seat. Room stewards will be around to ensure rows aren't lost during the photo session but of course, there is the possibility someone might grab your seat. I just hope people will act responsibly and not try and do that purposefully.

As disco said...
I am just hoping for a ticket, and if we get close enough to the front it will be a bonus!

Will we be able to save our seat by leaving something on it if we have to leave for bathroom, lunch, autograph or photo op? And can friends save a seat for us if we'll be late or otherwise busy with something else? For ticket sales I'm going to assume then that the earlier you buy your ticket the closer to the front you'll be. I mean what would be the point of rushing to buy a ticket if you're stuck all the way in the back, right? Do the color blocks cover all seats from side to side and front to back for it's particular block? Maybe a diagram would help. :)

The following information will be included on the ticket description in the Gatecon store, however, we appreciate you may have other things on your mind than reading the small print on Sunday, so we are posting it here as well for you. There is now a purchase limit in place, so anyone planning group bookings please take note of section 4 in case you need to amend your plans for Sunday.

Terms & Conditions

By purchasing a ticket to Gatecon & Legends The Homecoming you agree to the following, in addition to our general event terms and conditions as detailed at gatecon.com:

1.   Entry to the convention is for the person named in our database only.
2.   If you cannot attend the convention and wish to sell on your ticket for its FACE VALUE or less, you must notify Gatecon of the change of ownership and supply us with the name and email address of the new owner
3.   If you are offered a ticket for sale we advise that you contact Gatecon first to confirm the person selling it has the right to do so.
4.   Gatecon does not condone ticket touting.  We have set an upper limit of 15 tickets that may be purchased in any single transaction in the store. The person buying tickets for a group of friends must supply all names and email addresses at the time of the booking. Gatecon reserves the right to verify individuals within a group. Anyone found to be buying in bulk to sell the tickets on, either at face value or higher, may have their complete order cancelled and a refund made, minus Paypal fees and an administration fee.
5.   If you are taking advantage of our three-month Payment Plan through Paypal you agree to make payments on time and in full. Failure to do so may result in your ticket becoming null and void.
6.   The store transaction confirmation and subsequent ticket allocation email are for your reference purposes only. Admittance to the event only happens after you have collected your Homecoming Pass in person at the registration desk. This is for your security as much as ours.
7.   If someone is determined to get around the system no doubt they will try, so again we strongly advise you to be wary of anyone offering either multiple tickets for sale or at an increased price. Caveat emptor!

Once we have sold out of tickets we will be offering a waiting list to put sellers in touch with anyone looking for a ticket. We are unable to offer this service whilst we still have tickets in stock. Gatecon will not be involved in the handling of money between a seller and a buyer. That will be a private transaction between the two parties.
Absolutely Everybody’s at Gatecon

In 2008, the seating was first come, first served, so it's still for this convention. The only difference is the color coding of the tickets that would indicate location in the ballroom....correct?

That's what I would generally do, leave my jacket and/or backpack on the seat as a visual indication that someone is already sitting there. However, I have actually experienced, in a movie theatre but the same principle, when returning from the washroom someone had decided they wanted the seat anyway and moved my jacket/backpack.

Like Fryn has said, I would like to assume that the people going to the con will be awesome but there is always the possibility that there will be people with the "me" mentality and not caring if they inconvenience others. To echo discodiva, I just want to get a ticket and if I also happen to get a seat which works best for me, that's gravy. My seat preference is primarily due to the best view for photographs (non-flash, of course) as I have found being too close or too far off to the side makes it difficult to get well framed pictures.

In 2008 the seats were numbered and corresponded to ticket numbers.  They were numbered oddly b/c they wanted folks who'd bought their tickets the year before to enjoy the privileges of that, since they'd bought before Richard Dean Anderson was announced as a guest.  (This is the year I ran the volunteers for the main talk room and part of my job was explaining the numbered seating... fun times! XD)

All the other years were designated by ticket level - VIP down through Day Pass.

It sounds like this year will be similar to that, but rather than ticket price driving which section you sit in, it's color codes by ticket number.

Or they could totally randomize the entire thing and ticket 500 can sit in the front row because that's the color code it gets.  I don't see this happening, but since they're still working out the details, anything is possible at this point.

Once you make it into the site and select your number of tickets, will they be reserved until you finish entering the names and email addresses, or will you have to race to enter all of the information and click submit before you get the tickets?

That is a very good question. It's too bad they didn't have a pre-sale for members of the forum/mailing list.

There may have been unnumbered seats for tickets purchased 'at the door' or for day passes.  That part I don't remember.  I only saw/sat in my seat once the whole con, since I was working. =)  But the first x-hundred for sure were numbered.

I don't think that there should be seat reserving. It makes it to difficult for the organisers to police and can generate arguments even during a panel. One set of butt cheeks, equals one seat. If someone is off getting photos or autos then when you return sit in the empty seat that you see within your block. If the con organisers start making rules and regulations for the seating, they may as well give out ticket numbers corresponding to seat numbers! No one can say who was sitting where, at what time or for how long, and it causes a distraction for guests as well as everyone else should a dispute arise. The con organisers can request, however, that once you have taken a seat and the panel has commenced, that you do not move around from seat to seat as this is distracting to the panel in progress. At the end of the panel if you see an empty seat that you would like, then by all means feel free to move to it for the next panel.
End of my rant for the day. ☺
