Hi. I'm Jeannette and I'm flying in from Michigan. I am really looking forward to attending my first Gatecon and seeing Vancouver. It has been 25 years since I have visited Vancouver. I have to admit I am a bit apprehensive since I am coming by myself, don’t know anyone, and am probably a bit older than many attendees (although I could be wrong). In any event, I am really excited about attending and meeting people! Please humor my insecurities, but what has been the age range of Gatecon attendees?  ;)

Hello and welcome.  As far as the age range goes (without naming names) 😆 there are people who are very close to 80 and the youngest that I know of is 10, but I don't think he is going this year. Do you fit in there somewhere? 😆😆

Ok, I feel better now!  :). I am definitely somewhere in there! Thanks.

Hi Jeannette - Don't worry, I'm in the same boat. I'll be 56 next year and I'm worried that the youngsters won't be able to keep up.

My sister is coming with me (our first 'sister' vacation) but we won't know anyone else. Don't worry, we'll have a great time!

I'm Amy and I'm coming up from south of Seattle (Olympia area).  I'm 48 and this will be my first Stargate con (though I watched it lovingly from day one).  Looking forward to meeting other people who love Stargate!

I'm debating whether I should drive up to Vancouver or take the train.  I like having my freedom (especially to run pick up vegan food), but I've heard the train ride is really enjoyable.  Any suggestions from locals or experienced gaters?

Hi Amy... Vancouver has a pretty good public transport system and both bus and sky train stations are only a couple of minutes walk from the hotel. You probably wouldn't need a car, unless you were thinking of going sight-seeing outside the city. Maybe do a Google search for vegan shops and then check the bus and sky train routes to see how easy it would be to get there? Thee might even be a shop like that in Richmond itself... Look forward to meeting you in September!

Hi Amy, welcome. Given that there is the Sky train near the convention hotel I would take the train and use transit. The traffic in Vancouver and Richmond is bad for most of the day! I live about 19 miles East of the hotel and I'm trying to avoid having to drive to the con every day by hoping to get a room in a hotel close by for a couple of nights! You would need a car if you want to do more sightseeing outside of Vancouver as the transit system is not as good further out in the Lower Mainland. You will be able to get to the touristy places and the most popular Stargate locations using transit.

Not sure what the protocol is for introductions, I've finally recovered my password, omg sooo much to catch up on!

I'm Heidi and I'll be flying from Texas. This will be my FIRST convention and my first trip to Canada. I'm a bit nervous since I won't know a soul and having to learn the rules of con-going and what to expect. I don't really do well with large crowds and hectic pace. But this is a bucket-list type thing and I really want to make the most of it. I grew up watching Stargate with my dad (he's a huuuge RDA fan) and this event is like reliving the happy part of my childhood. I really want to meet as many people as I can and experience everything that I can!
ok well enough rambling...Hello everybody!  ;D

Nice to meet you Amy! I'm from Seattle and I'll be driving up. I've heard great things about the train though so I don't know how much help that is lol

Hi Heidi, you've made the first step and met some people!  :) I went to my first Stargate convention on my own too! I had no idea what to expect but everyone on the forum I was on at the time were so welcoming and answered all my questions. I felt I got to know people before I got there and then I met many of them in person too, a few of them are coming to this convention so we're all meeting up again! That's how easily Stargate fans make friends and you will get to meet loads of people through sharing the one thing we're all there for, a love of Stargate!

Contact or email me please, look forward to meeting new people.  I will be arriving on 7th but dont know what time yet.
Any advice would be good too please.

Janet, old is a relative term.  Seems to me, you're right in the middle of the pack.  My husband and I have been to 2 Gatecons, both in Vancouver.  We arrive a couple days early, and get in a bit of fishing and touristy things.  It's a pretty long flight from UK, so I suggest you try to see some of the beauty of Vancouver in addition to all the offerings of the convention.  Don't worry about not knowing anyone.  Everyone attending is friendly, and also interested in getting acquainted.   The organizers are top notch, and, when they have time to come up for air, are some of the warmest and friendliest folks you could ever hope to meet.  Looking forward to a wonderful time with wonderful new friends.

Janet, you'll be meeting a whole bunch of 50 somethings, I'm one of them! When you're all together no one notices age, just a bunch of great people who are nuts about Stargate!

Hi Janet. I am Jeannette, 57 years old, and also coming alone. This is also my first convention. I am a bit nervous because I am not used to traveling by myself. My traveling companion has always been my son, who is an adult now :-[. I am really looking forward to this event and know we will have a great time! I am going on the cruse, tour, and attending the banquet. Although I am only coming from Michigan, I don't know if I will make it back to Vancouver so figured I'd do all three. Look forward to meeting you.

Hi there, Im from the UK and travelling alone but sharing a room.

Any other Brits going as would love to get in touch and meet you at the Con too?

I am nervous as never travellled alone before let alone to Canada.

Pleeaaaaseee get in touch, even if you are from other countries.  |I'd rather not be a loner  :(

My name is Janet and i am 54 from Essex and probably be one of the older ones going.  I have a ticket for the banquet but only only the reserve list for the Cruise and Tour.  Would love to do other things too but initially photo/autographs of the celebs.

Thanks

Janet
