The Homecoming 8th-12th September 2016 / Re: Autograph Sessions

Assuming we will need to pay in CAD for autos, has anybody ever tried to exchange money out of an ATM for smaller bills at a nearby bank?

Fryn et al, thanks for listening to the comments. You just can't please 100% of the people 100% of the time.

I am so looking forward to this event, catching up with friends and making new ones. I have found that sitting next to a stranger at the beginning of a con, ends up being a friend by the end of it. Lining up for photos and autographs has the same effect too.

Don't be bummed because you may be sitting next to a stranger, it may be me! Smile and say hello, I assure you that I will say hello back. ☺

Unless your seat falls in the middle of a group of friends, someone will be sitting next to a stranger. I like your positive outlook on this whole seating drama. Hopefully we all don't bite and use a bit personal hygiene in the morning to the make the experience that much better for everyone. ;)

Also, I'm not partial to where my seat is. Closer is always good, but I'll honestly be happy with a seat/ticket anywhere. Better than being customer 1001 logging in to purchase.

We are leaning towards Plan B right now...add ons come later. Otherwise poeple are going to spend so long adding things and choosing meals etc that they risk missing the ticket by the time they complete checkout.

Never thought about the time constraints when adding all the extra add-ons before check out.

Thanks for going with the second option! :D

Definitely interested! Went to the last one back in 2008 held at Red Robin and had a wonderful time meeting up with old and new friends.

Please add me and friend Connie to your list.

Lets take over the whole restaurant!! :D

I went on the one they had in 2008. Was a nice time though we didn't get to get out to explore too much. I remember stopping in Stevenson, Burnaby Mountain and maybe a couple other places.

Two years later I was back for a different con and a group of us rented a car, found a map online and did our own location tour. We saw Jack's cabin, Sam's house and tons of other places that were too cool to describe.

Next year I'll be going with a first-timer and we may have to do this tour. She's never seen Vancouver nor any Stargate-related sites. She's really going to get a kick out of it. Can't wait to see her expression. :)

... I was actually thinking about going with the bus, bhut since I don't know which places they'll show us I'm a bit uncertain... I really really want to see Jack's cabin *sighs*

So @Brenda sorry to bother you, I didn't understand, will you go with the organized bus tour or you gonna rent a car? In case you rent it and do your own tour would there be the possibility for me to join you and your friend (I'm a first time too) and the gas costs etc?

Is anyone interest in doing 'our own' tour? It would be reaaaaaaly fun!

I don't see it being a problem. Not hard to get a temporary Canadian drivers license and renting the mini van we had that day worked out to be about $20-25 each (there was 7 of us that day) if I remember correctly. It really depends though on my friend and what she wants to do and how much the bus tour works out to be.

I've heard there is a Plan A and a Plan B per Richard as to when bookings for the tour will take place.

Plan A: Main event ticket with add-ons
Plan B: Main event ticket without add-ons; Sale of add-ons will begin at a later date

If the tickets for the bus tour go on sale during the main event sale we may just wait. Getting the money together for the event may be enough for now. Will let you know!

Here's a pic of when we visited Jack's cabin.

This was the best! I got some amazing candid pics with some of the guests who came and am still amazed how friendly and approachable many of the guests were. So different than other conventions where security keeps you at arms length from saying hello.

Speaking of weather, what is the average temperature in Vancouver in September? Rainy season?

The few times I was there, both in August, it was warm during the day with the sun shining, but a light jacket was needed for the evenings. Also, I'd bring a rain jacket or umbrella. We had rain one day when we went to Lynn Canyon but it was mostly just a mist that quickly moved off in a few hours.

The Pacific Northwest area is a temperate rain forest area so a good amount of rain throughout the year and moderate temps. My kind of weather. ;)

Gategoers at The Homecoming / Re: Welcome to Gategoers
« on: September 20, 2015, 10:27:04 AM »
Hello everyone!

Planning on attending and may be bringing a first-timer. She goes to all the local fandom cons around where she lives so not sure if she's ever been to a strictly Stargate convention before. Will be fun to experience it all anew from her eyes. Can't wait for the festivities to begin!

Was planning on doing some side trips after the convention up to Capilano Bridge and maybe whale watching once again. Anyone interested in going together?

Would love to help out too. Was at the 2008 Gatecon and had a wonderful time volunteering. Thinking Tech or possibly Medical if you have it. Just a little background in both. 😉

Local Amenities / Re: Map of Richmond

Wonderful! Looks like everything is very convenient to access and from what I understand, the Skytrain is only $4 one way up to Vancouver which is fantastic for a day of excursions to Stanley Park, Lynn Canyon, etc.. :)
