Auction FAQ

Items that offer multiple spots
If the bids for an item are the same amount, and a new higher bid is placed, forcing another bid out, then the bid with the newest date will be the first to be removed. (ie. bids of the same amount will be considered a "first come first served" basis)

What is a Spot?
A spot is the number of items or placments available within the same auction. If there are more than one identical items then they may be placed in the same auction, rather than have many separate auctions.

What currency is used in the auctions?
All bids in the auctions are UK Pounds (£).

Dates and times
Any dates and times displayed in the auction section are server time and not your local time. The server time is AEST (Australian Eastern Standard Time). The current server date and time is Wednesday, 7 January 2009 20:31.

When do I pay for my item
All winning bidders will be contacted by Gatecon soon after the completion of the auction regarding when the item must be paid for. Some items may contain this information in the item details.

What if I fail to pay for a winning bid
Anyone who fails to pay for a winning bid will be banned from bidding on future items. The item will then be offered to the next closest bidder for that item.

Items with reserve prices
If an item has a reserve price, the item will not be sold unless the reserve price has been met at the time of the auction close. If you are a winning bidder in an auction where the reserve has not been met, you will be notified of this upon the completion of the auction.

What payment options are there?
At this point in time Gatecon only offers PayPal for auction payments.

Who is able to bid on auctions
If the Auction item refers to an "event" held as part of a Gatecon convention (ie. picnic, walk or special occasion with a guest) only ticket holders of that Gatecon convention may bid on those items. If the auction item is an actual object or collectable item then anyone may enter. Any bids placed on "Event" items by non ticket holders will be considered null and void.

For items with multiple spots, can I make multiple bids?
Yes. But please note that if you have multiple winning bids you are responsible for payment of ALL winning bids. If you only intend on purchasing 1 spot in an item , then only include 1 bid in the "Active" bids.

How does the minimum bid work ? I see some amounts less than the miniumum bid !
Each auction has an individual "minimum bid increment". The minimum you can bid on an item is the minimum bid plus the lowest bidded amount (if there is no bid, this is disregarded, and the entry bid stated at the top of the item is the minimum bid). At some times, people may make odd dollar bids to enter, and as lower bids are knocked out, it is possible for these bids to appear invalid amounts, but please remember that these bids were placed when the entry bid was a lot lower. This only applies to items with more than 1 spot.

Can I update my bid
At the moment no. Any bid placed is a new bid, which may infact place you multiple times in an auction with multile spots. You will be responsible for any and all bids you place. If you have made a bid by mistake, please contact Gatecon immediately using the email link below.
